Are We Really Going to Let Seniors Be Taxed Out of Their Homes?
This is something I can’t ignore anymore.
Across California — especially here in Silicon Valley — I’m seeing a painful reality unfold. The very people who built our communities… who raised families here… who worked their entire lives… are now struggling just to stay in their own homes.
Not because they made bad choices.
Not because they didn’t plan.
But because property taxes keep rising… while their income does not.
Imagine this:
You’ve paid off your home after decades of hard work. You retire. You’re living on Social Security or a fixed income. And suddenly, the cost just to stay in your home keeps going up — year after year.
At some point, it becomes unbearable.
And then what?
We’re seeing it happen already — seniors being pushed out, forced to sell, or worse… slipping into homelessness. In fact, seniors are one of the fastest-growing homeless populations in California.
That should stop all of us in our tracks.
But there is hope.
There’s a ballot initiative for 2026 — the 60+ Property Tax Exemption Act — that would protect the primary residence of homeowners aged 60 and above.
This means:
No more being taxed out of the home you already paid for
No more choosing between food, medicine, and property taxes
No more fear of losing everything late in life
This is not about politics.
This is about dignity. Fairness. Humanity.
Our seniors deserve to age in place, not be pushed out by a system that no longer works for them.
This is where you come in.

Because once seniors lose their homes… we don’t get that back.
Let’s stand up for the people who spent their lives building the communities we now call home.
Let’s take care of our own.
