Ethiopian Community Services in San Jose, CA. To respond to the social and economical needs of the Ethiopian refugee & immigrant community in the Santa Clara County.

Of the millions forced to flee Ethiopia in the 1980’s due to the political change, Santa Clara County has become home to approximately 25,000 Ethiopians. In addition, in the 1990’s hundred more recipients of the diversity visa lottery have made San Jose their home largely because of the already existing large population of Ethiopians, opportunity of employment and weather. To begin meeting some of the needs of these impoverished people, Ethiopian Community Services, Inc. (ECS) was established on April 5, 1991 as a not-for-profit organization. The effort to establish such an organization goes back to the early 1980’s. The limited funds granted by the County of Santa Clara enabled ECS to hire a highly qualified and dedicated Executive Director. ECS is governed by nine (11) Members Board of Directors. These Board Members are volunteers who do not receive compensation for services render to ECS. They are talented, experienced, and respected community leaders from varied ethnic background. The other volunteer group is the Advisory Committee. The Advisory committee consists of selected community leaders and experts. As an advisory Committee, they serve to the Board of Directors and various ECS programs. Its membership is composed of an ad hoc group of individuals assembled for a particular reason.

Dear members of the community,

The Ethiopian New Year celebration is tomorrow, Sunday, September 13, 2026, and we hope you are all ready to join us in celebrating this special event at the beautiful Arena Green East, located at 340 Sharks Way, San Jose, CA 95110.

There is plenty of parking nearby, including on Sharks Way, where the park is located, and on Santa Clara Street in front of Diridon Train Station.

Your safety is our top priority, so please be careful when crossing the street, and hold the hands of young children.

It is going to be an amazing day, and we will see you there.

Dear members of the community,

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who donated to support the funeral service of our brother, the late Ato Michael Kebedom, or kept the organizers in their thoughts.

Thank you for your support, especially to Ato Getachew Birbo and Ato Solomon Samuel, who helped us throughout the process and contributed enormously.

We laid our brother to rest in a dignified manner earlier this morning, and we are equally grateful to everyone who attended the funeral. Your presence means a great deal to us.

We are also grateful to Mekane Rama Cathedral in general, and to Melake Berhanat Komos Aba Betsea and Megabe Sereat Kesis Abiy in particular.

የጤና መድህን የሌላችሁ ወገኖቻችን በሙሉ እባካችሁን ተመዝገቡ እና በነፃ ዶክተር ይያችሁ። በቅድመ ህክምና በቀላሉ ፈዉስ ሊያገኝ የሚችል የጤና እክል እስከሚጠና ድረስ አትጠብቁ።

አበዉ እንደሚሉት በአንድ ድንጋይ ሁለት ወፍ ማለት ነዉ። ህክምና አግኝቶ በአሉንም መታደም።

ሁላችንም በቦታዉ ተገኝተን ወንድማችን በክብር እንድንሰናበተዉም በትህትና እንጠይቃለን።

ቀብሩን ለማስፈፀም በገንዘብም ሆነ በተለያዬ መንገዶች ለተደረገልን ትብብር እና ድጋፍ ሁሉ ልባዊ ምስጋናችን እንገልፃለን።
