Happy international Women's Day! I haven't posted here in awhile as my daughter is pretty much running Joy of Books now ❤️
I hope you are all enjoying books with strong women characters today. If you need a good thriller, my current audiobook is The Violence by Delilah Dawson. Kind of a feminist Station Eleven with a touch if Nothing To See Here. Share your recommendations too!

In the mood for a memoir? Here’s three I listened to on audiobook recently. Hollywood Park by Mikel Jollet is a masterpiece, my most recommended book of 2021. I went for the cult connection (if you want cult memoir titles, thats a big list and a whole other post!) and stayed for the beauty and pain and art. The Perfect Other by Kyleigh Leddy is an important book but badly needed editing (way too many tangents, way too many adjectives. If you don’t mind journal-entry type chapters, you’ll like it more than I did), and You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey by Amber Ruffin is hilarious and ”cringey” (as the kids say), illuminating, enraging, and humbling (how’s that for too many adjectives! I need an editor too!) Enjoy!

Celadon Books sent Little Free Library stewards an advance copy of The Maidens by Alex Michaelides and I can’t wait to start it! Let me know if you’d like to have it next!
In other news, the clubhouse is still closed here in The Oaks, so Joy of Books is still inaccessible, hopefully re-opening soon. We do have a “mini” free library on the porch for delivery drivers that gets a lot of action and has been fun!

We browsed a bookstore!
It felt so normal and fabulous! The store is open and letting people in one “family unit” at a time. We lucked out and had it to ourselves for an hour- heaven!

Logan wrote a review of Dark Matter, which has just happens to be on shelf at Joy of Books, waiting time be read after the pandemic!

The Sharks captain is back with his latest review of Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, which was actually recommended to him by a fan!

Next up on his book club's reading list? Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine.

Hello! I hope you are all safe and healthy and getting lots of cozy reading time in during this unprecedented time. In our family, we joke that SIP stands for “Stay In Pajamas” as well as Shelter In Place! I am trying to escape into novels, but here’s some nonfiction I may check out as life slows down. They seem like good resources as we consider how we want to be as we come out of this period (I have read Maxed Out, years ago, and loved it). Let me know any other recommendations, and stay in touch!
I’ll do a post about novels next month.

Happy New Year, readers! What’s been your favorite book of 2019? Mine were Ask Again Yes and The Gifted School for novel, No Visible Bruises for nonfiction (close tie with Say Nothing), and The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry for “beach read/thriller,” though I whipped through so many of that category it’s hard to remember!
Happy reading in 2020!!

This is Teresa: Happy 2020!! Some of my favorite books in 2019 were the Story Thieves book series by James Riley, the Land of Stories series by Chris Colfer, The Grimm books by Adam Gidwitz, The Hunger Games, Ms.Frisby and the rats of Nimh, and Projekt 1065.

11/02/2019

Teresa and I just did a tally and since we opened we’ve had.....drum roll....67 books taken since we opened in April!! Woo hoo!! Several returned, some checked out more than once, and many donations too! We’ve been in a bit of a slow period but re-stocked and feel feel invigorated by this news! 67!! Not including board books, which we don’t keep track of.
