Check out this powerful anti-ALPR speech from SV DSA Chapter Office Tim at the Palo Alto City Council Meeting on Monday 8/24, coming shortly after the Anti-ALPR National Week of Action Palo Alto Rally

Tim called on Council to cancel the contract and not pursue other vendors of ALPRs, getting 5 minutes of speaking time when allied community members banded together to cede time to let him speak longer. The Council discussion was regarding the scope of an audit expected to take ~90 days, but community turnout was so strong Council asked if they could agendize canceling the Flock contract sooner than that.

The specific date for mobilizing to cancel Flock is not set yet, but is expected to come soon. Nevertheless, Palo Alto City Council seems poised to transition to a new vendor, so we still have work to do to stop them from instituting the surveillance state under a new banner.

Together we marched against the use of Flock cameras and against the planned building of the Amazon Data Center and the ICE Processing Center in Gilroy. We have a victory in our fight against mass surveillance alongside our allies at and Safety Over Surveillance! Stanford University has canceled its contract with Flock Safety. This comes after Chapter Leader Tim M wrote an op-ed that started a campus movement, demonstrating how organized workers and community members can bring about big change. These Big Brother tools of mass surveillance are all over the Bay - Join SV DSA and help us fight to protect our civil liberties by removing Flock cameras and canceling further contracts! 🌹
