Happy first day of summer and Father’s Day! To celebrate, we’re showcasing the California quail, a bird found in Santa Clara County Parks that is both stylish and family oriented. Early summer is when quails finish their nest and females will lay 12 or more eggs. When hatched, multiple adult quails help raise the young in groups known as coveys. The adult males will often stand guard away from the group to help protect the young and alert them of predators (way to go dad!).
Santa Clara County Parks is a great place to spend a summer day, go on a Father’s Day outing, and look for California quail.
