📚✨ What a way to kick off National Literacy Month! We had an AMAZING day at Kristi Yamaguchi’s Family Literacy Festival, celebrating the joy of reading with families from across our community!

And Potter had a BIG day! He gave away hundreds of books that make learning about healthy habits fun, danced on stage with our new friend Mister G, was inspired by a special message from Mychal the Librarian, and cheered on some of our favorite San Jose Sharks players during storytime!

Thank you to Always Dream, the San José Public Library, Children’s Discovery Museum of San José and everyone who made this celebration of literacy so special!

And the fun is just beginning! All September long, Potter the Otter is encouraging families to Take 5 & Read — take at least five minutes each day to open a book, share a story and build a lifelong love of reading together. He just may show up at your next storytime!📚❤️

For lots of little kids, Dolly Parton's free Imagination Library gives them their first books. ✨📚

From learning their first words to reading new stories together, dedicated reading time lets families connect, learn new things, and create special memories.

Through the Imagination Library and the Santa Clara County Library District, children under five can receive one age-appropriate book in the mail each month for free.

This year's theme, "Flourish & Bloom," was a reminder to celebrate what makes you, you! We are so proud to support and honor the strength and resilience of LGBTQIA+ communities and families.

Save the date! We are excited to be preparing for FIRST 5 Connect, our annual conference on Saturday, October 24.

This year's conference will bring together our partners, including community members, Family Resource Center staff, early educators, and more. Attendees can expect to build community, foster their growth, and expand their professional networks.

We had a very special guest stop by to give a p**p about babies! City Councilmember Rosemary Kamei joined us at our FIRST 5 office today to talk diapers, little ones, and our Give a P**p About Babies campaign to raise critical funds for our Diaper Kit Program! And let’s just say, we have some fun things in the works... stay tuned!

A strong community gives early educators the support they need to provide every child with high-quality early learning. 
 
Our annual Quality Matters Resource Fair brought more than 100 new and returning educators together to get connected to resources and learn about programs available to them. From learning about Findhelp, to connecting with community support systems and peer mentors, early educators left the resource fair prepared and informed. Educators also received technical assistance, supplies, and swag to support early learning in their centers with the children they care for each day.

If we support young children and families, better outcomes for everyone in our community will follow. A key piece of that equation is uplifting residents who work in early childhood education, so families can work, children can thrive during critical developmental stages, and more folks have access to exciting new careers.
