San Jose is a long established immigrant gateway: 38% foreign born; 56% speak a language other than English. The City of San José’s Office of Immigrant Affairs was established in 2015 for the purpose of creating a more informed, engaged, and welcoming experience for immigrants; increase opportunit

ies for shared prosperity, and aim at becoming the most successful multi-cultural city in the world. The Office of Immigrant Affairs has developed a "Welcoming SJ Plan (3-year immigrant integration plan) that will focus multi-sector efforts to facilitate the civic, economic, linguistic, and social integration of immigrants. "The strength and success of Silicon Valley and our nation will continue to be fueled by the hard work, ingenuity, and cultural perspectives of immigrants. Our 'Welcoming San Jose' plan will ensure that our community can keep creating opportunities for all immigrants to reach their potential, become engaged and contribute, and feel secure in our city." - City Manager, Norberto Duenas.
