The Starr County Precinct 4 Fire Department proudly attended the annual Rio Grande City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb today to honor and remember the heroes lost on September 11, 2001. Our members were deeply honored to take part in this solemn event, with Engine 1 standing post to sound the official ceremonial cue that marked the start of the climb. We extend our sincere gratitude to the organizers and neighboring departments for coming together to uphold the promise to never forget.

Fire update: The brush fire near Santa Elena on FM 755, north of La Gloria, has been successfully contained. Containment efforts were made possible through strong inter-agency coordination, with essential mutual aid provided by the Rio Grande City Fire Department, La Rosita Volunteer Fire Department, La Casita Volunteer Fire Department, and San Rafael Ranch.

Starr County Precinct 4 Fire Department is actively working to contain a brush fire in the Santa Elena area. Residents and drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution, remain clear of the area, and allow emergency personnel room to operate.

What an unforgettable milestone for San Isidro! On Friday, June 19, 2026, our community came together for a surprise retirement party to honor Chief Bernabe Benavides for an amazing 45 years of service. 🚒
​It was an evening filled with well-deserved recognition, including special presentations from Congressman Henry Cuellar and State Representative Ryan Guillen, alongside award presentations by Rose Benavides.
​The highlight of the night marked an official transition of leadership as Chief Benavides passed the traditional white helmet to incoming Chief Homer Barrera. Chief Barrera is ready to take the reins and lead our department forward with the same pride, dedication, and protective spirit that San Isidro has counted on for decades. Please join us in wishing Chief Benavides a happy retirement and giving a warm welcome to Chief Barrera as he takes on this next chapter! 🎉

Yesterday, I was honored to present retiring San Isidro Fire Chief Bernabe “Barney” Benavides with a resolution commemorating his 45-year career in the fire service, including 31 years as Fire Chief. Chief Benavides’ dedication to protecting the people of San Isidro and surrounding communities has left a lasting impact, and we are grateful for his many decades of leadership and service.
