​Chief Barrera takes the helm with an exceptional track record of service, bringing a powerful combination of proven experience, technical expertise, and an unwavering commitment to our region. State certified for 16 years, Chief Barrera has dedicated the last 10 years to proudly serving the community of San Isidro, Texas.

Fire Chief Bernabe Benavides is retiring after 31 years of dedicated exceptional service to the Starr County Precinct 4 San Isidro Fire Department. Throughout over three decades of leadership, Chief Benavides served as the backbone of the department, leading from the front with integrity, grit, and an unwavering commitment to public safety.
​More than just a administrator, he was a mentor to generations of firefighters and a steady guardian of the San Isidro community. As he hangs up his turnout gear, he leaves behind a profound legacy of servant leadership, a deeply grateful community, and a department that is stronger and safer because of his vision. We thank Chief Benavides for his 31 years of sacrifice and wish him a long, well-deserved retirement. The department proudly takes the watch from here.

We just received a brand-new 2026 Chevrolet 4x4 Command Unit. Thank you, Commissioner Hernan R. Garza III, and staff members Johanna and Marlin, for the purchase of this unit. Your continued support and dedication to our department have proven themselves through the work you do.
Commissioner Hernan R. Garza III has demonstrated that Emergency Services for Starr County Pct. 4 residents are a priority. Chief Benavides says his department has received the best equipment available, including a new cascade system, bunker gear, and the Jaws of Life — all essential to providing the best service possible. The fire department continues to grow with more certified personnel and updated equipment.
