Today, he's been married for 10 years, has 2 kids, and a dog (Luna!). As an engineer, Michael has dedicated his life to solving problems. Rather than only addressing a problem’s symptoms, he tries to understand the cause in order to fix it. He will bring an engineering mentality to Congress - one that is not afraid to tackle the hard and politically uncomfortable problems. He will start addressing the big problems like reducing the threat of wildfires, increasing access to affordable healthcare, investing in education for kids and young adults that prepares them for meaningful careers, and ensuring everyone has an opportunity to find a job that pays a living wage. Michael’s values are rooted in Amador County and the relationships he’s made over the years. He believes in the value of human life and all of the differences that it takes on. Growing up in small town Amador County, he learned the importance of serving your community and looking out for your neighbors. He grew up clearing fallen trees and burning brush every summer; digging trenches and hauling firewood; volunteering to serve at the church’s annual crab feed fundraiser; and walking around Sutter Creek with his friends after school. His parents instilled in him the importance of hard work and dedication throughout his youth, lessons that he carries forward to this day. Brittany has taught him the strength that comes with empathy, understanding, and humility. His kids have taught him the importance of patience under stress. Finally, his time in Washington, DC has given him a greater appreciation for the diversity that this country has to offer, and the realization that we have more in common than we might think.

A bipartisan group of Representatives and U.S. Senators have signed an open letter to Secretary of the Department of the Interior, Doug Burgum, calling for the administration to abandon its' effort to sell or swap Yosemite National Park lands to private equity firm Kingsbarn Realty Capital. This land exchange serves the express purpose of private access to the park, and does not help the public.

Unfortunately, Tom McClintock has failed to take this concern seriously and has not signed on. Our district includes all of Yosemite National Park, and yet our Representative is unwilling to lead on this issue. In fact, he was only willing to acknowledge the issue with this effort when pressed in a committee hearing.

No statements to the press. No social media posts. No leadership.

Instead, he accused his colleagues of having their "hair on fire" about the issue, and dismissed concerns that this would ever happen. He also was unwilling to show support for calling representatives from the Department of Interior to testify under oath about the issue.

We deserve a Representative that knows how to use their voice to fight for us, especially when that means calling out their own party's leadership.

The Constitution isn’t an option you can opt out of. Article I gives the power to declare war to Congress alone- not the Pentagon, and not unelected bureaucrats.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has spent months executing an unauthorized war in open defiance of the War Powers Act. This isn't just a policy disagreement; it is a lawless executive power grab that puts American lives at risk without transparency or oversight. As an engineer, I know that when you ignore the blueprint, the whole structure fails.

In Washington, the blueprint is the rule of law. If we tolerate a Department of Defense that operates above the law, degrades vital civilian safeguards, and retaliates against oversight, we no longer have a functioning republic.

I fully support the resolution to impeach Secretary Hegseth. This isn’t a partisan issue, it's a constitutional necessity. Our communities deserve leadership that will stand up to lawlessness, protect our separation of powers, and force Washington to answer to the American people.

Last weekend the CEO of Anthropic published an essay arguing "We Must Pace the Frontier." He laid out his case for a more disciplined, oversight-oriented development at frontier AI companies.

Among his concerns, he wrote about the very real dangers posed by the current accelerating rate of development. This follows a series of whistleblowers who've left these firms saying the same things: the exponential improvement of this technology is now outpacing our ability to prevent serious harm.

As self-improvement training is implemented, current AI models train future models which accelerates development. Because people are less involved in training, the models become more difficult to assess and their 'alignment' becomes harder to verify. We've seen reporting several times in just the last year of AI deceiving humans and then attempting to delete or manipulate evidence of the deception.

Earlier this year, OpenAI acknowledged that a swarm of agents breached their training environment and hacked into the company Hugging Face. This kind of cyberattack was the most pointed concern in the essay: the potential for an attack that maintains persistence across the internet has the potential to disrupt our global economy.

In response, Sam Altman of OpenAI and Elon Musk publicly acknowledged the need for stronger internal guard rails, third party oversight, federal regulations, and an international framework that were argued for in the essay. I couldn't agree more.

Meanwhile, Trump calls these concerns a hoax. The establishment line for months has been that these were Chinese/CCP/communist talking points. Tom McClintock continues to echo these sentiments. In our recent debate, he was asked about the federal government taking a more active role in regulating AI. He argued the federal government needs to get out of the way.

Tom and Trump are ready to trust these AI companies with our future. They will argue that guardrails are unnecessary until the moment tragedy arrives. We know better and we demand a seat at the table. We demand proactive leadership that doesn't wait for a crisis to act.

Nobody in this district should have to drive hours for routine care. That is the reality in parts of our district already, and it gets worse every time a rural hospital loses the Medi-Cal revenue that supports it. Tom McClintock calls cutting it relieving pressure.

When the hospital or local clinic closes, it can be a matter of life and death for our neighbors. The cuts to Medicaid in the so-called 'One Big Beautiful Bill' will far surpass the support funding that was included for rural healthcare. This means less options and more cost.

Tom McClintock also supported completely dismantling the Affordable Care Act, claiming it was "collapsing" and dismissing vital healthcare protections as a "wish list of the Left." Let's be clear: saving our rural hospitals and keeping local doctors in our towns isn't a partisan debate, it’s a basic human necessity. Protecting people with pre-existing conditions from being denied or exploited by insurance companies is basic human decency.

I will fight to defend the benefits we've fought for, and work to put an end to corporate price-gouging in our healthcare industry.

Our health shouldn't depend on our tax bracket or zip code.
