Shabbat Shalom and Shanah Tova! Hundreds of holiday care bags are going out to isolated seniors, people with disabilities, and families in need this week. Inside each is delicious food, holiday essentials, and the message that their community cares about them.

This New Year is made all the sweeter thanks to the volunteers who attended our Mitzvah Makers Rosh Hashanah Gift Bag Packing events around the Bay Area.

From all of us at JFCS, l'shanah tovah u'metukah—may the new year be sweet, and may you always have somewhere to turn.

📸: Thank you to volunteer photographer Jonathan Gaines for taking photos at our event in Marin.

For 20 years, Congregation Ner Shalom in Cotati has been building community with adults with disabilities and their families through Celebrations, a program marking Jewish holidays with accessibility and belonging at the center of everything.

Ryan Berman, JFCS Director of Disability Services, spoke with J Weekly about what inclusion looks like in a synagogue setting.

“Make it acceptable for people to move, stim, or step out and return without judgment, offering things like fidget tools and noise-canceling headphones.”

We’re proud to see Ryan’s expertise highlighted and to be part of the conversation around disability inclusion and belonging.

Strong friendships make strong communities—meet Arnie and Tibor.

Arnie is a volunteer with JFCS, and Tibor is a 96-year-old Hungarian Holocaust survivor. Matched through our Friendly Visitors program, the two have spent countless hours together sharing meals, stories, and adventures. Their friendship is a fantastic reminder of how meaningful connection can bring light, dignity, and joy to everyday life.
