On Labor Day, it's worth remembering that we enjoy paid holidays (and weekends for that matter) thanks to the organizing of unions—the voice of labor!
that since 2019, inflation-adjusted wages inched up only 3%, while profits ballooned by 50%?
Meanwhile, the share of U.S. GDP (Gross Domestic Product) going to wages and benefits was at 52.8%—the LOWEST since the Bureau of Labor began measuring it in 1947!
..and, not one of today’s tech monopolies or retail giants that dominate our economy are unionized. In fact, they lobby for laws to stop workers from organizing to seek better wages and workplace conditions…even as they buy back stocks and pay CEOs hundreds of times more than their average workers earn.
But today, it's also worth remembering that as States Win volunteers, when we help elect candidates like Delegate Phil Hernandez, Danica Roem - Virginia State Senator, Assemblywoman Brittney Miller, and Representative Lorena Austin, we help make workers' lives better, as they fight to raise the minimum wage, paid sick leave, make workplaces safe (including from heat stroke on the job, or via whistleblower protections), deliver free quality public education, and the expand the freedom to bargain collectively!
