In his third week in office, Consul General Ron Gerstenfeld paid a courtesy introductory call on California Lieutenant Governor Ambassador Eleni Kounalakis.

During their meeting, Consul General Gerstenfeld expressed deep gratitude for Lieutenant Governor Kounalakis’s steadfast support of Israel and the Jewish community. The discussion focused on expanding economic cooperation between Israel and California, leveraging shared leadership in innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Continuing his engagements in Sacramento alongside Economic Consul Michal Niddam, the Consul General met with California Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Jennifer Barrera and Government Affairs Director Susanne Stirling. Their dialogue centered on accelerating commercial partnerships between CalChamber and the Consulate General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest.

As the world’s fourth-largest economy, California remains a vital trade partner for Israel and a natural hub for joint ventures in cutting-edge technology and services.

The visit concluded with a thoughtful meeting alongside the leadership of the Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region, reinforcing the vital bond between the Consulate and local community leaders.

A Journey of Insight, Connection, and Discovery in Israel 🇮🇱

Strengthening diplomatic relations with city governments across the Pacific Northwest, the Consulate General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest recently organized a delegation of councilmembers to Israel.

The visit offered the delegation a meaningful opportunity to immerse themselves in Israel’s vibrant culture, rich history, and dynamic government, while gaining a deeper understanding of the country’s challenges, achievements, and people.

From briefings with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Israel’s geopolitical situation in the Middle East, to an insightful visit to the Alma Research and Education Center on the security situation in northern Israel, the delegation gained perspectives that went beyond the headlines.

Their journey also brought them to Jerusalem’s Old City, a crossroads of faith and history; Haifa, a city known for its diversity and coexistence; and Tel Aviv, where they learned about the city’s vision and development through a meeting with the Tel Aviv Global Mayor’s Office.

One of the most moving moments of the visit was meeting survivors of the October 7 attacks. Hearing their firsthand accounts offered the delegation a deeper understanding of the human cost of the tragedy and the enduring strength of those who continue to rebuild their lives.

The delegation also visited Save a Child’s Heart, where they met children who had received life-saving cardiac surgery and follow-up care. Their stories were a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, solidarity, and extending a helping hand to those in need.

The tour concluded with meetings at the Municipal Innovation Center and Start-Up Nation Central, offering a glimpse into Israel’s thriving technology and innovation ecosystem.

As the visit came to a close, members of the delegation expressed their appreciation to the Consulate for a unique and informative experience—one that deepened their understanding of Israel and strengthened the bonds of friendship and cooperation.
