Meet the Ballot Simplification Council (BSC)! 🗳️📖

Starting today, this nonpartisan body is officially getting to work for the upcoming November election!

The BSC’s mission is simple: make sure local voters have fair, impartial, and plain-language summaries of every local measure on the ballot.

Want to watch the Council in action? All BSC meetings are open to the public and are held in person at City Hall.

The San Francisco Department of Elections was proud to join SFO, the San Francisco Public Library, and the San Francisco Mayor’s Office on Disability and Accessibility at the National Association of the Deaf Conference on July 1, 2026.

We appreciated the opportunity to meet attendees, answer questions about voter registration and voting, and share information about accessible voting resources available to San Francisco voters.

UPDATE: We have issued the tenth preliminary results report of votes cast in the June 2, 2026, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election.

Preliminary results are posted at sfelections.gov/results

Today's preliminary results report includes 5,685 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots counted since the previous results report issued on Wednesday, June 10.

The Department must still process and count approximately 1,800 ballots. This estimate includes approximately 600 vote-by-mail ballots and 1,200 provisional ballots cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center.

The Department will release the next preliminary results report and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots on Friday, June 12, at 4pm.

How do we verify the accuracy of ballots tabulated by our voting systems? It starts with a roll of the dice! 🎲🗳️

On Tuesday, June 16, at 9am, the Department of Elections will conduct the random selection of ballots for the 1% Manual Tally.

What is the 1% Manual Tally? It is a public post-election audit where we hand-count ballots from a randomly selected sample to confirm that the voting equipment accurately tabulated ballots.

How does it work?
• The Selection: Using ten-sided dice, members of the public will select 1% of San Francisco’s 501 precincts, alongside 1% of all vote-by-mail and provisional ballot batches.
• The Hand Count: Department staff will gather the selected ballots and prepare them for manual hand-count. The manual count will begin on Wednesday, June 17, at 8:30am, at our warehouse on Pier 31.

Preliminary results are posted at sfelections.gov/results

Today's preliminary results report includes 4,863 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots counted since the previous results report issued on Tuesday, June 9.

The Department must still process and count approximately 7,000 ballots. This estimate includes approximately 2,000 vote-by-mail ballots and 5,000 provisional ballots cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center.

The Department will release the next preliminary results report and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots on Thursday, June 11, at 4pm.

UPDATE: We have issued the eighth preliminary results report of votes cast in the June 2, 2026, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election.

Preliminary results are posted at sfelections.gov/results

Today's preliminary results report includes 36,308 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the last results report.

The Department must still process and count approximately 11,800 ballots. This estimate includes approximately 5,500 vote-by-mail ballots and 6,300 provisional ballots cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center.

The Department will release the next preliminary results report and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots on Wednesday, June 10, at 4pm.

UPDATE: We have issued the fifth preliminary results report of votes cast in the June 2, 2026, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election.

Preliminary results are posted at sfelections.gov/results

The Department must still process and count approximately 93,300 ballots, including approximately 87,000 vote-by-mail ballots and 6,300 provisional ballots cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center.

The Department will be closed this weekend, June 6-7.

The Department will release the next preliminary results report and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots to be counted on Monday, June 8, at 4pm.

UPDATE: We have issued the fifth preliminary results report of votes cast in the June 2, 2026, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election.

Today's preliminary results report includes 15,299 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the last results report issued on Election Night.

The Department must still process and count approximately 128,300 ballots. This estimate includes approximately 122,000 vote-by-mail ballots and 6,300 provisional ballots cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center.

The estimated 122,000 vote-by-mail ballots to be counted includes approximately 11,000 vote-by-mail ballots the Department received from USPS on June 3 and June 4, which are postmarked on or before Election Day.

The Department will release the next preliminary results report on Friday, June 5, at 4pm.

06/03/2026

UPDATE: The Department of Elections must still process and count approximately 122,400 ballots for the June 2, 2026, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election.

This estimate includes:

-approximately 116,000 vote-by-mail ballots received on Election Day by mail, at drop boxes, and at polling places;

-6,400 provisional ballots cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center.

Estimates of remaining ballots to count will be posted at sfelections.gov/results along with all election results reports.

Department personnel will continue processing and counting ballots until 10pm today.

For the remainder of this week, ballot processing is tentatively scheduled to occur from 8am-6pm. No ballot processing will take place on Sunday, June 7.

Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.gov/observe.

The next preliminary results report will be issued at 4pm on Thursday, June 4.

The Department of Elections has released preliminary results for the June 2, 2026, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election.

Preliminary results are posted at https://sfelections.gov/results

Tonight, the Department will release four preliminary results reports:

1. At approximately 8:45pm, a report including vote totals from most of the vote-by-mail ballots received before Election Day.

2. At approximately 9:45pm, a report that adds votes cast at polling places to the vote-by-mail totals in the first report.

3. At approximately 10:45pm, a report that adds additional votes cast at polling places that were received after the second report was issued.

4. The fourth and last report of the evening will include all votes cast at all polling places. This report will be issued around midnight, after all precincts have reported.
