San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Alejandra Gutierrez Fuentes (23), after a trial by jury for driving under the influence. Ms. Gutierrez Fuentes was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (VC 23152(a)) and having 0.08% or more, by weight, of alcohol in their blood while driving a vehicle (VC 23152(b)).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Driving under the influence makes everyone on the road less safe. Although no one was harmed in this incident, it serves as a reminder of how serious this issue is. My office is committed to keeping our roadways safe and holding those who drive under the influence accountable.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on March 4, 2026, Ms. Gutierrez Fuentes was stopped by CHP on northbound I-280 after allegedly traveling approximately 85 miles per hour and making an unsafe lane change around a U-Haul truck. Following the traffic stop, CHP conducted a DUI investigation. Testing conducted approximately 45 minutes after Ms. Gutierrez Fuentes showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14%.

The case against Ms. Gutierrez Fuentes was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney James Robbins with assistance from paralegals Raquel Paz, Nohemi Torres, and Adrianna Loomis, and IT support from Leland Chan. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Ms. Fuentes based on the California Highway Patrol’s thorough investigation and assistance.

“I’d like to thank the jury for taking their duty seriously and delivering a verdict that reflects the facts,” said Assistant District Attorney James Robbins. “This case is a testament to the hard work of our law enforcement partners in the CHP, who recognized impairment quickly and took a dangerous driver off a busy freeway.”

Our office takes all driving under the influence cases seriously and seeks to hold offenders accountable in all cases. For DUI felony cases, we established a Felony DUI Vertical Prosecution Unit with a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Eric Escobar (32), after a trial by jury for driving under the influence on Portola Dr. from Twin Peaks Blvd. Mr. Escobar was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (VC 23152(a)) and unlawful turning movement (VC 22107).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Although this incident did not result in tragedy, this case and verdict should serve as a reminder that driving under the influence won’t be tolerated in this city. My office is committed to keeping our roadways safe and will do everything we can to hold offenders accountable.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on July 29, 2025, at approximately 12:10 AM, Mr. Escobar was waiting at the stoplight at Portola Dr. and Twin Peaks Blvd. behind the victim’s car. When the light turned green, Mr. Escobar tried to drive around the victim’s car but hit the victim’s vehicle and did not stop. The victim and the victim’s brother, who had been driving behind Mr. Escobar in a separate car, chased after Mr. Escobar while calling the police. The victim and his brother were able to block Mr. Escobar until officers arrived.

The case against Mr. Escobar was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Gwendolyn West with assistance from Paralegals Nohemi Torres, Lord Fernandez, and Raquel Paz Aleman; IT support from Leland Chan and Noaeh Piniare; and District Attorney Investigators Ted Martin and Perla Ortiz. Prosecutors were able to develop a strong case against Mr. Escobar based on the San Francisco Police Department’s thorough investigation and assistance.

“I would like to thank the jury for their thoughtful consideration of the evidence and for delivering a just verdict,” said Assistant District Attorney Gwendolyn West. “This conviction sends a clear message that San Francisco is committed to the safety of everyone on the road and holding those who drive under the influence accountable.”

Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that three people have been charged in connection with a recent narcotics operation conducted in San Francisco by the Alameda County Narcotics Task Force.

Darrell Hargrove (60), Shantoya Cruz (48), and Iisha Washington (46) were charged with two counts of possession for sale of he**in and co***ne (HS 11351) with weight enhancements (HS 11370.4). Mr. Hargrove and Ms. Washington were charged with one count of possession for sale of a co***ne base (HS 11351.5) with a weight enhancement (HS 11370.4), and one count of possession for sale of methamphetamine (HS 11378). Mr. Hargrove and Ms. Cruz were additionally charged with one count of possession for sale of oxycodone (HS 11351) with an allegation of being armed with a fi***rm (PC 12022(c)). Mr. Hargrove and Ms. Cruz were also charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, he**in, and co***ne, respectively, with a fi***rm (HS 11370.1(a)), and two counts of possession of a fi***rm by a felon (PC 29800(a)(1)). Mr. Hargrove was also charged separately with three counts of transportation of a controlled substance—co***ne, he**in, and co***ne base—(HS 11352) with weight enhancements (HS 11370.4).

On August 27, 2026, the Alameda County Narcotics Task Force (ACNTF) executed a coordinated multi-location search warrant, resulting in the seizure of:

Approx. 1.5 kilograms of co***ne hydrochloride,
Approx. 1.5 kilograms of co***ne base,
Over 5.5 kilograms of he**in,
Hundreds of alleged oxycodone pills,
Approx. 200 grams of methamphetamine,
Two fi***rms and am******on, and
Approx. $12,900 in US Dollars.

Mr. Hargrove, Ms. Cruz, and Ms. Washington are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 1:30 PM.

Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that fifteen individuals were arrested for shoplifting in two separate large-scale operations conducted by the San Francisco Police Department’s (SFPD’s) Organized Retail Crime (ORC) Task Force.

In a coordinated set of operations with retail partners REI, Safeway, and a local business, the Task Force identified and apprehended five retail theft suspects: Erick Rock (45), Johanna Daniels (52), Dennis Kelley (51), Sergio Syon (28), and Rasha Sohan (26). They are alleged to have stolen over $32,800 in merchandise. They are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, August 31, 2026, for charges ranging from shoplifting (PC 459.5(a)) to grand theft (PC 487(a)) to petty theft with priors (PC 666.1(a)(1)).

During the same week, SFPD’s ORC conducted a retail blitz operation resulting in ten arrests related to retail theft. Zachary Bolling (40), Ryan Drummer (37), Julio Herrera (44), Darryn Ti**le (34), Samuel Batson (34), Hoa Lam (57), and Julian Lee (37) were arrested from various Whole Foods locations and charged for crimes related to retail theft. Andre Fayette (45) and Santos Corea Gonzalez (53) were arrested from two separate Walgreens locations and were both charged with crimes related to retail theft. Jose Ramirez Solis (28) was arrested from Target at Stonestown Galleria and charged with petty theft with priors (PC 666.1(a)(1)) and possession of drug paraphernalia (PC 11364(a)).

“My office continues to work closely with our partners in the SFPD to investigate and prosecute organized retail theft rings,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “This type of theft is exactly the conduct that drives business out of San Francisco. It is simply unacceptable, and we will work to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.”

Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that her office secured a conviction of Michael Mangrum (42) after a trial by jury convicted of violating a criminal protective order (PC 166(c)(1)).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Mangrum accountable. Violations of criminal protection orders must be taken seriously, as those who are willing to violate them pose serious risk to victims.”

According to the testimony and other evidence presented at trial, Mr. Mangrum violated a restraining order prohibiting him from any contact with the victim.

“I thank the jury for their thoughtful and thorough evaluation of the evidence,” said Assistant District Attorney Albert J. Ujcic III. “Violation of a court-ordered restraining order is a crime, and if you violate the law, you will be held accountable.”

The case against Mr. Mangrum was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Albert J. Ujcic III, with invaluable assistance from paralegal Aareona Miles, DA Investigator Jesus Mendoza, and Victim Advocate Jodee Brown. Their preparation and attention to detail combined with the efforts of the San Francisco Police Department lead to the successful prosecution of the case.

Mr. Mangrum is currently out of custody. Sentencing is scheduled for September 21, 2026.

Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Derreyl Chase Goode (40) was charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on April 27th, 2008. Mr. Goode is scheduled to be arraigned on August 27th, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Hall of Justice.

Mr. Goode is charged with murder (PC 187(a)) with an allegation that he used a fi***rm in the commission of the murder (PC 12022.53(d)).

Our office will move to have Mr. Goode detained pending trial without bail due to the public safety risk he poses.

According to court documents, on April 27th, 2008, San Francisco Police responded to 520 Fulton Street regarding a shooting and located a victim laying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the face. Witnesses told the police that allegedly, Mr. Goode was seen standing over the victim as the victim’s body hit the ground. The shooter fled the scene. After a substantial investigation by SFPD, Mr. Goode was arrested.

Charging someone with a crime should never be done lightly. While police officers only require probable cause to make an arrest, prosecutors must prove a crime occurred beyond a reasonable doubt, a much higher standard. This means that, when we receive a case from law enforcement, we must review the evidence available and feel confident that we can prove someone committed a crime beyond a reasonable doubt.

As a result, while most of the cases our offices receives end up being charged, many of them require further investigation. This might mean interviewing additional witnesses, collecting surveillance video, and/or finding additional key evidence. Overall, it means that sometimes the decision to charge someone can take more time than you might expect.

It can be tempting to charge someone—especially for heinous or violent crimes—to appeal to the public even if the evidence does not meet the “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard. As an office, we must resist that temptation, no matter the fallout. We will continue to hold our prosecutors to this high standard and hold those who commit crimes in our city accountable.

Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Erika Porter (45) of Oakland and Oliver Barcenas (36) of San Francisco were charged for harboring suspect, Norris Reed III, who allegedly shot at San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officers on May 31, 2026, in an attempt to kill them.

Ms. Porter and Mr. Barcenas are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., at the Hall of Justice.

Ms. Porter and Mr. Barcenas are charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact (PC 32), in that they did willfully and unlawfully harbor, conceal and aid Mr. Reed III, and one count of resisting, obstructing, or delaying of a peace officer (148(a)(1)).

According to the SFPD, on May 31, 2026, at approximately 10:29 p.m., when SFPD officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop of a robbery suspect in the area of Mission and 1st Streets, the suspect driver fled through city streets before he crashed, disabling the vehicle in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Jerrold Avenue. When officers encountered the vehicle, the driver opened fire on SFPD officers and struck one officer multiple times. During the encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect driver – identified as 36-year-old Norris Reed III – fled on foot from the scene to the nearby Bayshore Navigation Center at 125 Bayshore Blvd. while officers rendered aid to the injured officer and the second injured suspect.

At 12:17 a.m., over an hour after Mr. Reed III fled the scene, dispatch received a call stating that the suspect was inside the gate of the Bayshore Navigation Center.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Barcenas and Ms. Porter, and on Thursday, August 20, members of SFPD’s Community Violence Reduction Team placed them both under arrest.

Today, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Eliseo Alvarez (20) of San Rafael was charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting in the SOMA. Edwin Maldonado (19) of Richmond, and Andy Segura-Giron (20) of San Rafael were also charged in connection to the shooting.

All three men were arraigned on August 19, 2026, and each pleaded not guilty to all counts and denied the allegations.

Mr. Alvarez is charged with murder (PC 187(a)), with an allegation that he used a fi***rm in the commission of the murder (PC 12022.53(d)), and carrying a concealed fi***rm (PC 25850(a)). Mr. Maldonado is charged with two counts of assault with an automatic fi***rm (PC 245(b)) and carrying a concealed fi***rm (PC 25850(a)). The criminal complaint also includes an allegation that Mr. Maldonado personally used a fi***rm (PC 12022.5(a)). Mr. Segura-Giron is charged with two counts of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury (PC 245(a)(4)).

The District Attorney’s Office moved to have all three men detained pending trial without bail due to the public safety risk they pose. The court set no bail for Mr. Alvarez and he will remain in custody. Mr. Maldonado and Mr. Segura-Giron were each released on their own recognizance with electronic monitoring and home detention. The next court date for all three men is August 31, 2026, for the preliminary hearing.

According to court documents, on March 27, 2026, San Francisco Police responded to the intersection of Third Street and Harrison because they heard gunshots. Police found a man with an apparent gunshot wound and summoned emergency medics. The victim was transported to a local hospital and later died of his injuries. Allegedly, Mr. Maldonado began yelling at the victims who were waiting to enter a club. Allegedly, he pointed a gun at them and got into a struggle with the victims who attempted to take the fi***rm, and during the struggle, the fi***rm was discharged into the ground. Shortly after this, another suspect fired multiple rounds, wounding one person. Video recovered from the scene capturing the incident allegedly shows Mr. Alvarez fire at the victim.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced today that her office secured a conviction of Alexander London (33), after a trial by jury, following an incident where he attacked a woman in his apartment. Mr. London was convicted of domestic violence (PC 273.5) and domestic battery (PC 243(e)(1)).

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “We take cases like this very seriously because this kind of behavior often is the precursor of future acts of violence we want to prevent from happening. My office is committed to doing everything we can to fight for justice for victims and survivors in the courthouse and providing support as victims and survivors heal from trauma.”

According to testimony and other evidence presented at trial, on April 9, 2025, Mr. London prevented the victim from calling an uber from his apartment by taking her phone and proceeding to grab her wrists, twist her arm behind her back, place her in a chokehold, and throw her to the ground. The victim sustained numerous injuries due to this conduct. Three days prior to this incident, Mr. London took the victim's keys and slammed her into a wall.

The case against Mr. London was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Elliott Brooks, with invaluable assistance from, paralegal Lee-Ann Collins, and IT support from Noaeh Pinaire. Victim advocate Kendall Anderson and Jodee Brown worked closely with the victim throughout the pendency of this case. Their preparation and attention to detail combined with a thorough investigation from SFPD’s Bayview Station officers.

“Violence in any setting—whether in public or behind closed doors—should never be tolerated,” said Assistant District Attorneys Elliott Brooks. “I thank the Jury and the 911 caller in this case who refused to allow private abuse to remain private.”
