BurnBot BurnBot builds and operates systems for scaling fuel treatment to prevent destructive wildfires

BurnBot is a venture-backed technology start-up developing state-of-the-art wildland fire and forestry technology to scale wildfire mitigation efforts and prevent catastrophic wildfires. Our mission is to scale wildfire mitigating fuel treatments, through the use of technology, to protect against the risk of catastrophic wildfires by utilizing our unique ecosystem of wildfire and forestry technolo

gies. The BurnBot technology ecosystem is designed to maximize operational capacity and augment existing capabilities, enabling fire practitioners to accomplish more and reach their treatment goals, especially in sensitive areas near population centers, critical infrastructure, and the wildland-urban interface, fortifying neighborhoods, communities, and the ecosystem against the threat of catastrophic wildfires.

Last week, BurnBot hosted a live wildfire mitigation demonstration at Fallen Leaf Lake in South Lake Tahoe, CA — and the response from the community was incredible.

Local homeowners, firefighters, land stewards, utility providers, and students gathered to see our Mechanized Fuels Crew (MFC) and Remote-Controlled Masticators (RCUs) in action, tackling the dense ladder and understory fuels common in the complex wildland–urban interface surrounding the lake and across the broader Lake Tahoe basin.

Conversations flowed, questions were answered, and moments like these remind us what’s possible when we come together around a shared goal: preventing destructive wildfire.

As the first insurance-backed wildfire mitigation company, we’re also helping communities and landowners connect fuel treatments to measurable, insurable risk reduction — an increasingly important consideration across the Tahoe region.

Thank you to the Fallen Leaf Lake HOA for hosting us, and to all of our incredible partners who make this work possible.

The Atlas Fire burned this Napa vineyard and 50,000 acres in 2017. Nine years later, the fuel load is back — and so are we.

We brought our mechanized fuels crews and RX2 technology to La Fe Vineyard in Atlas Peak to demonstrate what modern wildfire prevention looks like.

In 2 hours, we completed 2 acres of shaded fuel break with minimal ground impact utilizing our remote masticators. The RX2 was used to blackline around the vineyard. It is a remote-controlled mobile burn chamber — nearly smokeless, precise, and safe to burn near homes, vineyards, and critical infrastructure. Bringing good fire back to the landscape.

Last year, BurnBot Inc remotely operated masticator cleared overgrown vegetation along the BNSF railroad corridor near Deschutes River Woods — creating a defensible fire break along the eastern edge of the neighborhood in partnership with Bend Fire & Rescue

Last week, that work was put to the test.

A fire broke out on a BNSF locomotive just south of Baker Road. The train came to rest right in the corridor we’d cleared — giving Bend Fire & Rescue a safe zone to operate and keeping the fire from reaching the neighborhood.

No injuries. No cargo threatened. No wildfire.

Proactive beats reactive. Every time.

On June 10th, join our BurnBot team for a live wildfire mitigation demonstration at the Fallen Leaf Lake Homeowners Association. Watch our mechanized fuels crew and remote-controlled masticators at work in real terrain, treating ladder fuels and creating defensible space.

This demo will be 2 hours long, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and is open to homeowners, fire agencies, fire safe councils, public officials, and community leaders.

See firsthand how precise, scalable fuel treatments are transforming wildfire risk and how BurnBot is connecting that work to real, insurable outcomes for property owners across the Tahoe region.

Last month, our team brought the future of fuel management to Napa County and held a live fire mitigation demonstration, which drew an incredible turnout. Vintners, land trusts, local residents, and fire departments all came out, and the engagement was incredible.

Our field demonstration started with our mechanized fuels crew operating advanced equipment, including our remote-controlled masticators, and then transitioned into a live RX2 demonstration showcasing a neat, almost smokeless approach to prescribed fire.

During the demonstration, our team walked through how we plan and execute fuel treatments, why our approach is more precise, faster, and more cost-effective than conventional vegetation management, and how we use these tools to scale to larger projects.

Big news from BurnBot!

We’re proud to announce a strategic investment and alliance partnership with Mercury Insurance.

This marks Mercury’s first strategic investment in a private company - and a major signal that the future of wildfire resilience and insurance availability will be built through proactive mitigation.

Together, BurnBot and Mercury will work to connect real-world wildfire risk reduction with insurance outcomes - combining fuels treatment, defensible space, and risk intelligence to help communities become safer, stronger, and more insurable over time.

California’s insurance crisis requires new thinking. This partnership is about building a model where verified mitigation can help improve resilience, protect communities, and expand pathways to coverage.

This is an exciting milestone for BurnBot, and an important step toward scaling practical wildfire solutions where they’re needed most.

Great to see BurnBot featured by NBC Bay Area - and to have the work recognized with the Verizon Disaster Resilience Prize.
In the segment, Ainslie, Director of Partnerships and Growth at BurnBot, walks through how the RX2 enables controlled, low-smoke prescribed fire—bringing a proven tool into places and conditions where it hasn’t historically been feasible.
Wildfire mitigation isn’t just about response - it’s about prevention at scale.

We appreciate the NBC team for telling the story.

We like to think of the BurnBot RX as a mobile burn chamber, but most people don't know exactly how the BurnBot RX works. Here's what's happening inside that burn chamber. 🔥

1️⃣ Ignition — Inside the chamber, a computer-controlled array of propane torches ignites the vegetation. Operators can adjust the flame height and temperature based on the terrain and fuel load.

2️⃣ Containment — Large fans mounted above the chamber draw air inward, creating suction that keeps flames and embers inside, preventing escape.

3️⃣ Smoke management — Rather than releasing smoke into the air, the high-heat, high-oxygen combustion burns off the smoke inside the chamber itself. The result: virtually no emissions, even in smoke-sensitive communities.

4️⃣ Ember suppression — Steel rollers at the rear press down on the burned ground to tamp out embers. A water mist spray then extinguishes any embers remaining.
