San Elizario Marshals Office

San Elizario Marshals Office Welcome to the official page for the San Elizario Marshals Office. But not since 1921 has San Elizario officially been a municipality.

In November 2013, the residents of San Elizario, Texas in El Paso County, voted to incorporate the historic town. The roots of San Elizario go back to 1598 and it was the first county seat of El Paso County in 1850. In May 2014, the first government was voted into office and since then, they have worked to build a strong foundation for the new city. It is important to the residents of San Elizario

to preserve the history--which includes an agricultural way of life, while at the same time focusing on building a sustainable future and creating a model city for the Paso del Norte region. We welcome you to spend some time on our page, get to know us... And better yet, take a drive down the historic El Paso Mission Trail and experience a taste of our hospitality. Today, we honor all the brave men and women who have served our nation with courage, dedication, and sacrifice. Your commitment to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

A special thank you to two of our own — Deputy R. Hernandez, Sgt., U.S. Marine Corps, and Deputy O. Juarez, Spc., U.S. Army — for their service to our country and their continued dedication to serving the San Elizario community.

We are proud to stand beside you both, today and every day.

On October 10, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., deputies with the San Elizario Marshal’s Office were dispatched to the intersection of Borrego Road and Socorro Road in reference to a motor vehicle accident (MVA).

Upon arrival, deputies observed an ELITE Ambulance, which had been transporting a patient, and an older model Ford F-150 pickup involved in a collision.

Through the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the F-150 had exited a parking lot and cut off the ambulance, causing the crash. The driver was identified Sergio Basurto. Deputies conducted a field sobriety test and located several open alcoholic beverage containers inside the vehicle. A breath test later revealed Basurto’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to be three times the legal limit. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, and the patient was safely transported to their residence in San Elizario by ambulance personnel.

Sergio Basurto was subsequently arrested and transported to the El Paso County Jail, where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). His bond was set at $7,500.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The San Elizario Marshal’s Office would like to remind the public to always drink responsibly. Driving under the influence endangers lives and carries serious legal consequences. Please plan ahead, use designated drivers, and help keep our community safe.
