🏔️ KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. IT COULD SAVE A LIFE. 🏔️
As temperatures climb, so does your risk of heat-related illness on the trail. Do you know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke?
🟢 Heat Exhaustion — your body's warning sign. Heavy sweating, cool/clammy skin, muscle cramps, fatigue, dizziness, headache, nausea.
➡️ Move to shade, hydrate, loosen clothing, cool off. Seek help if it doesn't improve in 30–60 min.
🔴 Heat Stroke — a medical EMERGENCY. High body temp (103°F+), hot/dry skin, confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness.
➡️ Call 911 immediately. Cool the body fast. Do NOT give fluids if the person is confused or unconscious.
Prevention is everything:
💧 Hydrate early & often
🧂 Replace electrolytes
☀️ Avoid peak sun hours (10AM–4PM)
🧢 Wear appropriate gear
⏱️ Take breaks in the shade
👀 Look out for each other
Respect nature. Protect yourself. Stay safe out there. 🇺🇸
