Last week two Scouts succeeded in their endeavors to raise funds to procure and place an AED in arenas of need in our San Diego communities.

Ben Prager raised funds to place an AED at the Islamic Center of San Diego for his Eagle Project Award. Ben also taught his Troop the skills to teach others in hands-only CPR/AED. The AED was put into service and hands-only CPR/AED training conducted on Sunday 3/13/22 to the Islamic Center community members.

Kaylee Stewart achieved her Silver Award Project by selling thousands of Girl Scout cookies to procure and place an AED at the San Diego Rescue Mission on Elm Street Wednesday 3/16/22. The AED will be of utmost use displayed in their newly designed reception area available 24/7 for the facility as needed.

Congratulations to these two inspiring youths and a bundle of gratitude in selecting our worthy mission to save more lives from Cardiac Arrest in our region!

San Diego City Lifeguard Michael Smoker and San Diego Project Heart Beat Program Associate Ray Moreland coordinated a beachfront CPR “hands-only training opportunity today at Scripps Park in LaJolla. They were able to educate about 150 new rescuers today.

Congratulations to San Diego Old Town Academy and Rady Children's Hospital for achieving the first Heart Safe School accreditation through the national Project ADAM Foundation.
Our mighty AED Advocate, Rachel Flores, pictured with her daughter Isabella, led the project forward in collaboration with Rady Children's Hospital, the national SADs Foundation, EP Save A Life and San Diego Project Heart Beat.

It’s CPR & AED Awareness Week, Learn CPR Today.
June 1-7 marks National CPR and AED Awareness Week, which spotlights how lives can be saved if more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED.

Over 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the U.S. each year, with about 70% happening in homes. Fortunately, Hands-Only CPR can be performed by family or household members. Even in the time of COVID-19, household members may be the lowest-risk providers of CPR at home because they have likely already been exposed, if in fact the cardiac-arrest victim has COVID-19. If you are called on to give CPR in an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save the life of someone you love: a child, a spouse, a parent or a friend.

Pulsepoint is a great app to have handy in your smartphone. If you don't have it, get it for CPR/AED Awareness Week. I've had it in my phone for over four years. Takes very little data or energy from your cell, but it can make a difference in saving a lot of lives!

Thank you SDFD Station 9 for teaching a most important life-saving lesson to new parents eager to learn.
Huge thanks to the American Heart Association for the donation of Infant CPR Anytime kits gifted to the parents in session.
This awesome training took place just prior to the current pandemic outbreak.
I want to remind all, that Cardiac Arrest is still the leading cause of death in our Nation! Good to know that these families are ready to act.
