HONORING THE PAST....USS Pearl Harbor sailors are coming out in force to donate at the 9/11 blood drive at NAVBASE San Diego. Still looking for donors until 1400. THE blood drive is being conducted at the NAVBASE Chapel next to Gate 6, the Main Gate.

COURAGE UNDER FIRE .... True to their motto of "Courage Under Fire" which honors their namesake, John Lee Canley, crewmembers of USS John L. Canley (ESB 6) know their blood donations for the Walking Blood Bank program have a dual purpose. They know they may have the ability to provide an immediate blood donation to an injured shipmate who needs a transfusion at or near the point of injury. They also know their donation benefits the warfighters all over the world. The ability to identify those with a special type of O pos blood provides a quick and easy approach to treat a patient who needs blood and needs it quickly. The Canley, an Expeditionary Sea Base, functions as a flexible mobile sea base for supporting military deployments, special forces, and humanitarian missions. It features a large aviation deck that can support simultaneous operations for multiple helicopters. The ship is named for Medal of Honor recipient John Lee Canley, a retired Marine Corps Sergeant Major and decorated Vietnam war veteran.

Key Steps:
✔️ Get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy meal, and hydrate.
✔️ Complete a quick health screening and answer a few questions.
✔️ Relax while trained professionals collect about one pint of blood using sterile, single-use equipment. The donation itself takes about 20 minutes.
✔️ Enjoy a snack, rehydrate, and head back to your day.

Walking Blood Bank drive ... USS John L Canley (ESB 6) will host a WBB drive Aug. 11. The drive will not only help the crew to add sailors to its WBB rolls, it also supports warfighters deployed overseas and patients at all Military Treatment Facilities. The ship is named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient, Sgt Major John L. Canley, a retired U.S. Marine.

As a Lewis B. Puller-class expeditionary sea base, the USS John L. Canley is designed to serve as a mobile sea base supporting military deployments, special operations, and humanitarian missions
