A special honor for a very special member of our Midway family. 🇺🇸⚓️

At 99 years old, WWII veteran Al Hansen is the eldest member of Midway’s volunteer crew and our only WWII veteran volunteer. Al was recently honored with a plaque at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, permanently preserving his story of service alongside thousands of other American veterans.

A well-deserved honor for one of Midway’s own.⚓️ World War II veteran and USS Midway Museum docent Al Hansen was recently honored with a plaque at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial.

During World War II, Al served as a gunner aboard a Navy patrol bomber, flying 20 combat missions over the Pacific Ocean. Today, he continues to serve by sharing his stories with guests aboard Midway, where he has volunteered for more than 20 years.

Congratulations, Al, and thank you for your lifetime of service and dedication! ❤️🤍💙

The “Spad” is back! ✈️⚓ After more than two years of detailed restoration and 8,000+ hours of work by our incredible Airwing volunteers, Midway’s A-1 Skyraider has returned to the flight deck!

This legendary attack aircraft served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, with Skyraider squadrons flying from Midway during both the late 1940s and Vietnam era. Now, this 74-year-old piece of naval aviation history is looking almost brand new.
