The Hemlock Society of San Diego is a 36 y/o nonprofit organization providing free education about end of life choices and how to prepare for a peaceful death. We hold free public meetings on Zoom six times a year (on odd-numbered months) with expert guest speakers. These meetings are videorecorded and available for viewing on our website and YouTube channel. The Right to Die Film Series is held o

n alternate months six times per year (on even-numbered months). We show and discuss a free film at a local library. Additionally, we provide individual counseling relating to the end-of-life in a professional, confidential, and compassionate manner at no cost via email, phone, or in person. HSSD supports options for a humane, self-determined death by contributing to campaigns for law reform, legal defense, and the World Federation of Right to Die Societies. We were presented at Jack Kevorkian's trial and raised funds for his defense. Paid members receive a bimonthly newsletter with information about worldwide right-to-die developments six times a year. HSSD brings like-minded people together for small group workshops and and discussions. Members also have access to free resource information such as international books, pamphlets, and DVDs. HSSD offers speakers on the end of life choices to community organizations at no cost. We have spoken at hospices, churches, retirment homes, civic organizations, and professional organizations. We are the oldest Right-to-Die organization in the U.S. and the only remaining chapter of the Hemlock Society USA. Thanks to technology, our outreach has expanded across the U.S.

Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) has been legal in New Jersey for 7 years. Yet only 11% of residents are even aware MAID is legal in New Jersey, according to a recent study. Many health officials run from the taboo topic. Health systems won’t discuss it either.

Fewer than a dozen doctors and only a handful of pharmacies statewide are willing to help residents in the controversial practice of medically assisted death, a seven-month NJ.com investigation has found. Even less are willing to discuss it.

The dying can end their lives with just a prescription. But only if they find a willing doctor.

Very disappointing news.

After the end of Friday's debate in the House of Lords there was no chance it would pass before parliament concludes its current session next week.

A mum who decided to take her own life after the tragic death of her only son has fulfilled her wish at a Swiss euthanasia clinic.

Wendy Duffy previously told how she no longer 'wanted to be in this world without' her beloved son Marcus, who passed away four years ago.

The 56-year-old heartbreakingly said that each day on this Earth was 'agony' for her since the death of her only child.

Wendy Duffy was granted permission to end her life at Pegasos clinic in Switzerland.

This is very interesting.

"Carrigan calls for greater attention to personal biography in end-of-life care. She suggests that health care professionals and policymakers should look beyond legal criteria and abstract debates about autonomy and instead engage more deeply with the lived histories and experiences of patients."

The debate surrounding the provision of assistance to those wishing to die has long centered on abstract notions such as individual choice and personal autonomy. What is often missing from the discussion, says sociologist and Ph.D. candidate Kalima Carrigan, is a sense of the individuals behind thes...
