Hearts & Hands Working Together” is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) agency whose primary mission is “to provide food, and clothing to the ‘underserved’ and ‘at risk’ individuals/families, and, refer them to other resources that will lessen the threat for them, in the San Ysidro Community.” The agency’s mission is based on the principle of when people “work together” with their “hearts and hands” their
goals can be realized and a lot more will be accomplished! This “grass roots” agency was founded in 1996 by Alicia Jimenez, Raquel Moran and a group of very concerned community members who actively participated in their school/District PTA organizations They noted that the resources for food and clothing were very limited for many families, in their immediate school community. With no funding sources, they worked with their “hearts and hands” and assisted few families with food and some clothing, using their own personal resources. Today, with an active, strong, “all volunteer” staff/board officers and members (no paid staff members), “Hearts & Hands” continues to serve their community families/ individuals with food and clothing. “Hearts & Hands” is presently serving 375+ families at their monthly food/clothing, distribution where canned and dry goods, bread clothing and baby diapers are distributed to the families at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parking lot every first Tuesday of the Month located at 2020 Alaquinas Dr. San Ysidro, California 92173. In addition, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank generously donates fresh produce.
“Hearts & Hands”, also, is a designated Emergency Food Distributor and Super Pantry by the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and response to the emergency needs, Monday through Friday from 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm at 663 E. (Community Service Center),
Each year, with the assistance of the businesses, Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank grants, the SDG & E, the San Ysidro Business Improvement, and the generosity of individual donors, “Hearts & Hands Working Together” has been able to keep up, during pandemic the needs have increased tremendously, due to the status of our nation’s economy. Hearts & Hands have gone from serving 900 families to a steady 1700+ families, at our three monthly different food distributions. It is difficult to note the “needs” and not be able to fulfill all of them; however, “Hearts & Hands Working Together” is optimistic that with everyone “working together,” their mission can and will continue to be accomplished. We encourage everyone to become involved in our mission, “to provide food, shoes and clothing to the ‘underserved’ and ‘at risk’ individuals/families and refer them to other resources that will lessen the threat for them, in the San Ysidro Community.” Donations can be made out to: “Hearts and Hands Working Together.” Thank you!
