Friends of Famosa Slough

Friends of Famosa Slough Famosa Slough is a remnant of Mission Bay in San Diego, California. We depend on volunteers to help with restoration and maintenance projects at Famosa Slough.

It is located south of Mission Bay and receives tidal water from the ocean via the San Diego River. The Friends of Famosa Slough (FFS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to protect and restore the Slough as a natural wetland preserve and to promote public awareness of the importance of wetlands. Famosa Slough is a City of San Diego wetland preserve and is managed by the City's Park

and Recreation Department, including Mission Bay Park Rangers (phone 858-581-7602). Join us for two upcoming events. Saturday April 25th is the annual Creek to Bay Cleanup from 9-12. Register now! And if you are free on the morning of Friday, April 24th join in a San Diego Bird Alliance Habitat Restoration event. The estuary benefits so much from volunteers who remove non-native plants, trash, and improve the habitat for wildlife.

Don't miss our meeting Monday April 6 from 6-8 at Pt. Loma/Hervey Library. SDSU Professor covering the geologic evolution of the Famosa Slough, then separatly a brief update on birds across the years. The geology and hydrology are a big part of what makes Famosa Slough a wildlife destination.

*** 40 years old!*** Celebrate Friends of Famosa Slough by attending our meeting Monday April 6 from 6-8pm at the Point Loma/Hervey Library. Featured speaker is Stephen Schellenberg from San Diego State University: A birds-eye view of the evolution of Famosa Slough: From the geologic past to the future anthropocene. Lesley Handa will also be giving a quick comparison of the bird species that visited the slough over the 40 years and considerations for future habitat at the slough with focused efforts to preserve tidal marsh with Sea Level Rise.
