Brian also serves on HomeAid San Diego’s Executive and Events Committees, bringing nearly two decades of experience and a deep understanding of the building and real estate industries to our organization.

HomeAid San Diego is proud to celebrate the graduation of Cohort 14 from our WORKS Construction Training Program!

This cohort is a great example of what can happen when nonprofit and community partners work together to remove barriers and create greater access to opportunity.

Our partnership with Project Next played an integral role in making Cohort 14 possible. When transportation challenges made it difficult for students to access WORKS at our traditional training location, we worked together to bring the program directly to the students. A special thank you to Amanda Morales, Program Manager at Project Next, for her partnership, coordination and commitment throughout the program.

It’s been rewarding to watch our students learn, grow and build skills they can carry into the workforce. They gained hands-on exposure to construction, developed workplace readiness and financial literacy skills, connected with industry professionals, explored career pathways, and earned their WORKS certificates.

Thank you to HomeAid San Diego Board Members Craig Perry and Staci Reidinger for joining us to celebrate, and to our industry and community partners, guest speakers, and everyone who helped make Cohort 14 possible, including our program sponsors Bank of America, Lennar San Diego, MascoCorp, Resource Innovations, Sherwin-Williams, Sundt Construction, Inc., and Toll Brothers.

HomeAid San Diego WORKS was excited to welcome back Bank of America to deliver its Better Money Habits financial literacy presentation to our Cohort 14 students!

Myr Sapitula-Pierson led an engaging and informative discussion covering a range of important financial topics, including building and maintaining credit, understanding credit cards, saving and budgeting, and protecting yourself from scams and fraud.

Financial literacy is an important part of preparing our students for success beyond the classroom, and we are grateful to Bank of America for continuing to provide our students with practical knowledge and tools they can use as they move forward in their careers and personal lives.

A big thank you to Myr and Bank of America for supporting our WORKS students and helping them build a stronger financial future!

HomeAid San Diego was excited to welcome John Metz, Ryan Zammit, and Michael Zappala from Ickler Electric Corporation, along with Matthew Ellis, Principal and Architect at PGAL, to connect with our WORKS Cohort 14 students!

The Ickler Electric team gave students an inside look at the electrical trade, sharing their personal career journeys, insights into Ickler’s company culture, and what it takes to build a successful career in the industry. Students also had the opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day work of electricians and the different career pathways available within the electrical field.

Matthew provided students with a unique perspective on the architecture and design side of the construction industry. He shared examples of some of PGAL’s impressive projects throughout San Diego, discussed the role architects play in bringing projects to life, and walked students through his own career journey to becoming an architect.

Exposure to professionals across different areas of the industry is an important part of the WORKS Program. These conversations help our students better understand the wide range of career pathways available to them and hear firsthand how industry professionals built their careers.

A big thank you to Ickler Electric, PGAL, John, Ryan, Michael, and Matthew for taking the time to support our students and inspire the next generation of construction and industry professionals!

Cohort 14 students had the opportunity to visit the Associated General Contractors of San Diego (AGC San Diego) training facility in Lakeside for an immersive, hands-on learning experience.

Students received advanced training in wood and metal framing, gained experience using power tools, and had the opportunity to test their skills on a heavy equipment operator simulator.

These experiences provide our WORKS students with valuable exposure to the construction trades while allowing them to build upon the skills they have developed throughout the program.

It is always a pleasure to visit such an incredible training facility, and we are grateful to AGC San Diego for their continued partnership and commitment to providing our students with meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities.

HomeAid San Diego was excited to welcome two amazing community partners, Resource Innovations and Goodwill Industries of San Diego County, to provide our students with valuable career education and workplace resources.

The Resource Innovations team introduced students to the growing world of clean energy careers. Students learned about California’s transition toward zero-emission technologies, the variety of careers being created as the industry grows, and how construction and the skilled trades play an important role in our clean energy future. It was a great opportunity for students to learn about career paths they may not have considered before.

Goodwill followed with an engaging workplace readiness workshop focused on preparing students to enter the workforce with confidence. Students learned about the do’s and don’ts of interviewing, resume building, workplace communication, professionalism, and what employers are looking for in new hires.

Programs like WORKS are made stronger by community partners who are willing to share their time, knowledge, and experience with the next generation. Thank you to both teams for investing in our Cohort 14 students!

HomeAid San Diego’s WORKS Cohort 14 had the opportunity to visit an active construction project with Skyline Construction, thanks to HASD's Board President Jamie Prevost and the Skyline team!

Students toured a hospital that is part of NVA, a network of more than 1,300 general practice and specialty animal hospitals across North America. The Skyline team walked our students through the project and shared what goes into the planning, coordination, and construction of a commercial project from start to finish.

Just as valuable as seeing the project itself was hearing directly from construction professionals about their personal career journeys. Our students learned about the different paths that can lead to a career in construction and had the opportunity to ask questions about the industry and the many roles involved in bringing a project together.

Back in the classroom, students continued building their hands-on skills by learning how to use speed squares and operate cordless drills, putting some of the basic construction concepts they’ve learned into practice.

A huge thank you to the Skyline Construction team for taking the time to invest in the next generation of construction professionals, and to our WORKS instructors and supporters who continue to make these experiences possible!

HomeAid San Diego is excited to announce that WORKS Cohort 14 is officially underway!

For this cohort, we’re proud to partner with Project Next in San Marcos to bring the WORKS Program directly to North County. By hosting the program in San Marcos, we’re helping reduce transportation barriers and making workforce training more accessible for opportunity youth and transitional-aged youth (TAY) in the area.

Project Next has opened its doors to host our orientation and all seven in-person WORKS sessions. Their team has also played an important role in connecting young people to the program and supporting students as they explore their next steps in education and employment.

This partnership is a great example of what can happen when organizations come together to provide multiple layers of support for young people in our community. We’re excited for the next two weeks of hands-on construction training, career exploration, industry exposure, and workforce development!

A special shoutout to our instructors and HomeAid San Diego Board Members Craig Perry and Staci Reidinger for volunteering their time and continuing to invest in the success of our WORKS students.
