This afternoon, members in Imperial Beach came together to hear from elected leaders Assemblymember LaShea Sharp-Collins, Assemblymember David Alvarez, and Richard Barrera who is running for California Superintendent of Public Instruction.

🗣️ We've reached a tentative agreement in Placer County! 🗣️

Our tentative agreement will go until June 30, 2028, and includes a wage increase to $19.38/hr effective upon ratification by the county and state. Also upon ratification by the county and state, and for the duration of the contract, we will receive an increase of $10,000 annually for PPE, bringing the total to $30,000 annually, and an increase to $0.28/hour for dental and vision benefits. Thank you to everyone who showed up to meetings, sat at the bargaining table, and fought to secure this tentative agreement!

When a handful of corporations control the market, they set the rules—driving up prices, smothering wages, and limiting choices for everyone else.

AB 1776 pushes back by holding monopolies accountable and leveling the playing field for small businesses, new ideas and fairer prices for us as consumers.

A more competitive economy helps ease our cost of living, supports better standards on the job, and strengthens our communities.

UDW is grateful to S. Monique Limón, Senator Caroline Menjivar, and Senator John Laird for standing with IHSS recipients and rejecting harmful proposals, including shifting IHSS cost growth to counties, eliminating the Backup Provider System, reinstating Medi-Cal asset limits, and reversion of the APS expansion, they protected critical supports for California’s most vulnerable.

For , we are recognizing Sue Kunitomi Embrey. Sue Kunitomi Embrey was a Japanese American community activist whose family was forcibly incarcerated in the Manzanar concentration camp during WWII.

As a teacher, Sue helped include AAPI curriculum in classrooms. In college she was involved in the Third World Liberation Strike of the 1960's to demand ethnic studies programs in classrooms, and she also led a pilgrimage to Manzanar--an annual journey for over 50 years to remember Japanese Americans who had been unjustly incarcerated in
camps.

The Manzanar pilgrimage became a National Historic Site in 1985, which included an apology, a commemoration, as well as reparations from the U.S. government to Japanese families whose lives had been changed forever during WWII.

In Sue’s words, “all of us have a certain responsibility to make sure that everyone is treated equally because one injustice to one person affects the rest of the population.”
