UDW We represent more than 200,000 home care workers and family child care providers in California. Paid for by the United Domestic Workers of America.

We fight for California homecare providers, the people we serve, and the In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program -- one of the most humane and cost-effective programs in state government.Inspired by Cesar Chavez, UDW was the third union in American labor history established by people of color. Today we have over 65,000 members in 10 counties across California. Terms of use for posting to UDW’s

Today, we are celebrating the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.

As continued attacks on voting demographics increase, we remain committed to the fight to protect the right to vote. No one should be harassed while trying to vote, or have their experience voting made difficult for no apparent reason.

Our vote is our voice and our power.

We're fighting to keep child care doors open! 🚪 Join us on August 11 to remind that this year's budget didn't go far enough for child care providers.

Lawmakers can improve on the budget before the legislative session ends. That's why we need you to JOIN US on August 11 to demand that :

✅ Pass and
✅ Increase provider pay
✅ Amend and support the implementation of new provider requirements

We know that when providers organize and speak with one voice, we win. RSVP at the link in our comments.

In case you missed it: We stood alongside community members and advocates outside Rep. David Valadao’s Bakersfield office to call on Congress to reverse the largest health care cuts in U.S. history — cuts Valadao voted for in order to fund tax cuts for the ultra‑rich.

Our communities depend on Medicaid.

The message to Rep. Valadao was clear: he can stand with the families in his district who rely on Medicaid and Medicare, or continue supporting cuts that harm his own constituents.

Today, we honor the anniversary of Medicaid and the millions of lives it has helped support.

As Medicaid faces harmful cuts, care workers, clients, and families are at risk of losing access to essential care, in-home services, and critical support. Programs like IHSS depend on Medicaid funding, and when Medicaid is weakened, our communities feel the impact.

We won't stop fighting to protect Medicaid and ensure our communities have access to the care, dignity, and support they deserve.

On the 61st anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, we stood alongside community partners to demand an end to the devastating health care cuts. Rep. David Valadao voted YES to these cuts, putting health care at risk for millions! Already, 8 million people have lost coverage, and more than 15 million more could lose it in the years ahead—including many families here in the Central Valley. We won’t stop fighting to protect the care our communities depend on!✊🏽

Today we celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and honor the progress it has made toward dignity, inclusion, and independence.

Every day, home care providers help make those values a reality by supporting older adults and people with disabilities in living safely and independently at home. We celebrate this milestone and remain committed to protecting the care that makes independence possible.

We showed our power yesterday at the Merced County Board of Supervisors as we continue to fight for a strong contract! When we stand together, we will win the wages and benefits we deserve for the crucial work we do!

"Without the care I provide, my clients would not have the same quality of life. They rely on IHSS to stay in their homes, stay connected to their communities, and stay stable. And care workers like me rely on a system that recognizes the value of this work," said UDW Member Corie Crowson. "Merced has been without a contract for four years. Four years without a contract means no funding for PPE, and PPE is essential for the work we do. We cannot safely care for vulnerable people without the basic protective equipment our jobs require."
