On this 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, Veterans Village of San Diego pauses to remember a day that forever changed our nation, and the lives of so many around the world. Today, we honor all of the lives lost and hold their families and loved ones in our hearts. We remember those who faced unimaginable loss, the survivors who continue to carry the memories of that day, and the countless lives forever changed by the events of this day.

We also offer our deepest gratitude to the first responders, firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, volunteers, and everyday Americans who became heroes that day. Their courage, compassion and selflessness represented the very best of our nation.

We remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, and those who worked tirelessly in the days, weeks and years that followed. We remember the families who have carried their loss for 25 years. We honor their lives. We thank those who served. And we will never forget.❤🤍💙

We are incredibly grateful to the San Diego Trex Fraternity and its Junior Chapter for their outstanding support of our Veterans! Not only was the San Diego Trex Fraternity a 3-Star Sponsor of Stand Down 2026, but the Junior Chapter went above and beyond by hosting a two-month donation drive, collecting much-needed hygiene supplies and clothing for Veterans at VVSD.

Their generosity is a wonderful example of what happens when a community comes together to support those who served our country. These donations provide Veterans with essential items while reminding them that their service and sacrifices are valued and appreciated.❤️

The therapy dogs always lift the spirits of our veterans and staff. They don't care about mistakes or past troubles. Instead, they offer quiet, nonjudgemental support, and their wagging tails immediately turn a hard day around.

Petting a dog releases oxytocin (AKA the love hormone), lowers stress by lowering cortisol levels, and increases dopamine and serotonin levels to elevate mood. It's no wonder we see such big smiles when they visit our campus.❤🐾
