On May 9, 2026, Border Angels and Borderlands Relief Collective completed a water drop in the Otay Mountains along our Teddy Bear Shrine Trail.
We began at 6:00 am, gathering in the Dunkin’ parking lot to load supplies, test radios, review safety protocols, and welcome our team. A total of 22 people joined the effort, including BRC members, safety monitors, returning volunteers, and first-time volunteers. By 6:30 am, we were on the trail.
At our first drop site, we replenished 10 waters, 20 electrolytes, 39 cans, and 3 packages. The second site showed little to no consumption, so we redirected supplies to the third drop. Before arriving, we paused to reflect on why we drop in this area and approached the site in silence to pay our respects. There, we found no cans, electrolytes, or packages remaining, but 68 waters were left untouched. We dropped 78 electrolytes, 81 cans, and 4 packages.
In total, we hiked about 8 miles, reached roughly 1,750 feet in elevation, and worked through temperatures in the low 80s.
Every drop is an act of care. Every step is taken with intention. Thank you to everyone who showed up with compassion and commitment to saving lives in the desert.
