Her keel was laid on May 9, 1983 by Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle, Washington and launched on December 14th, 1984. While primarily used to dry-dock submarines,, the 2,941,176 cubic foot, 61 feet tall Arco can house any number of seagoing vessels displacing less than 7,800 tons.

Good morning ARCO Families!
New book from ! In the 1970s, the U.S. Navy faced a retention crisis as sailors left the
service to spare their families the hardships of long separations and relatively low pay. “Our Greatest
Strength: Navy Wives and the Manpower Crisis in the 1970s U.S. Navy” documents the ambitious
reforming agenda the Navy put in place to empower Navy wives, resulting in enduring programs that,
today, ensure spouses’ voices are heard and keep Navy families together.
