For many working families, rising costs for housing, groceries and other necessities are making it harder to keep food on the table, even with a steady paycheck.

What happens when technology and community impact come together?

The San Diego Food Bank was proud to serve as a Champion Level Sponsor of Data Science Alliance ’s Building for Good Hackathon, bringing together innovators to tackle real-world challenges like food insecurity and homelessness.

Our Data and Analytics Director, Ion Nemteanu, kicked off the event by sharing the realities of food insecurity in San Diego County and challenging participants to explore how their talent and technology can help nonprofits better serve our communities, while also lending his expertise as a judge throughout the hackathon.

Many teams took on projects focused on food insecurity and supporting vulnerable communities, putting their creativity and skills toward meaningful solutions.

Congratulations to Data Science Alliance and all the participants for your creativity, energy and commitment to using technology for good!
