STATEMENT FROM SHANE HARRIS
Spokesperson, No on Measure A Campaign

SAN DIEGO HAS SPOKEN.

Today, the final votes were tallied, and Measure A has officially been defeated.

This victory belongs to the thousands of homeowners, renters, taxpayers, volunteers, and community leaders who stood together and rejected a costly, misguided tax on non-primary homes.

From the beginning, we said that making housing more expensive would not make housing more affordable. The voters agreed.

This campaign was about protecting homeownership, defending property rights, and demanding real solutions instead of more taxes. The people of San Diego sent a clear message to City Hall: affordability cannot be achieved by taxing our way out of every problem.

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, supporter, and voter who made this victory possible.

Tonight, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we continue the fight for common-sense policies that keep San Diego affordable for everyone.

Another day, another vote drop — and another win for the No on Measure A campaign.

Today, San Diego County processed approximately 100,000 ballots, including more than 36,000 votes cast on Measure A within the City of San Diego. In that vote batch alone, Measure A was defeated, with voters once again siding with common-sense housing policy over a costly new tax.

The facts are simple:

✅ We won today’s Measure A votes.
✅ We have won every vote drop reported so far.
✅ The overall lead remains intact.

Supporters of Measure A may try to focus on percentage changes, but percentages don’t determine the outcome — votes do. Today’s count added to our lead and reaffirmed what we’ve seen throughout this election: San Diegans are rejecting the Unaffordable Housing Tax.

Thank you to everyone who voted NO on Measure A and stood up for homeowners, renters, taxpayers, and practical housing solutions.

Big News! 🗞️The people have spoken.

According to multiple media outlets and the latest election returns, Measure A has been rejected by San Diego voters, with approximately 58% voting NO and 42% voting YES. While county election officials will continue counting and certifying remaining ballots countywide in the days ahead, the results have consistently trended in favor of the opposition campaign and the over 300,000 ballots are likely not all in the City of San Diego. The margin is large and likely hard to overcome.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this election, engaged in the public debate, volunteered, attended events, shared information, and made their voices heard. This was one of the most closely watched local ballot measures in San Diego, and voter participation helped ensure that the issue received the public scrutiny and discussion it deserved.

🚨 ENDORSEMENT ALERT 🚨

Former San Diego City Councilmember Scott Sherman is voting NO on Measure A after successfully challenging the City’s misleading ballot language in court.

Sherman fought for transparency — and won.

“The ballot language was misleading and a material omission. Voters deserve the truth, not spin.”

As legal concerns surrounding Measure A continue to grow, voters deserve answers before being asked to approve another costly tax and bureaucracy.

Honoring Memorial Day 🕊️ San Diego is home to thousands of active-duty military families — and Measure A could punish service members simply for being deployed away from home.

Supporters claim there are exemptions, but military homeowners would still be required to file paperwork and prove their status to City Hall bureaucrats in order to avoid being taxed.

That’s more government oversight, more red tape, and more risk for the very people serving our country.

Deployment is not a choice. Military families deserve support — not another layer of bureaucracy and potential penalties.

San Diegans are already paying more for water, trash pickup, parking, utilities, and everyday living costs. Now City Hall wants another tax — with no guarantee the money will actually fix housing.

Measure A sends more money into the same system that’s already facing a $118+ million budget deficit and struggling with spending priorities.

This isn’t a revenue problem. It’s a spending problem.

No accountability. No guarantees. No real housing solution.

🚨 ENDORSEMENT ALERT 🚨

National Black Contractors Association President Abdur Rahim Hameed & homeowner of 2 San Diego homes is voting NO on Measure A.

Hameed is joining a growing coalition of homeowners, taxpayer advocates, and community leaders opposing this costly and legally questionable measure.

“This tax won’t solve homelessness or the housing crisis — it will create more bureaucracy, more uncertainty, and more burdens on San Diegans.”
