The Talega Specific Plan area encompasses a total of 3,510 acres in the northeastern portion of the city. It is located about 3 miles inland from the coast and 2 miles east of the I-5 freeway, between the streets of Avenida Pico and Camino De Los Mares. Many recreational amenities are available in Talega. There is a main swim and athletic club and two smaller swim clubs conveniently disbursed thro
ughout the community. Several hiking trails and small HOA parks can be found throughout Talega and three large public parks that provide fun recreational enjoyment. Talega is home to 9,000 residents and, when completed, will have a about 3,800 residential units. Most are tract houses, while there are also condos, townhomes and apartments and all residents share the same master pools and facilities. There are plenty of nearby shopping centers and restaurants, a neighborhood elementary and middle school, and a privately operated golf course. The community is served by the Capistrano Unified School District. The major streets within the Talega Specific Plan are Avenida Pico, Camino La Pedriza, Avenida Vista Hermosa and Avenida Talega and in March 2014, construction will commence on the extension of Avenida La Pata This extension will provide an alternative route (in addition to the I-5 freeway) out of San Clemente and will also connect the Talega community to San Juan Hills High School.
