🚔 MAXIMUM DUI ENFORCEMENT THIS WEEKEND 🚔

The San Bruno Police Department, in partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety and funded by a grant from the California Highway Patrol’s Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program, will be conducting a Maximum DUI Enforcement operation throughout the weekend.

With local high school and college graduation celebrations taking place, we want to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly and make safe choices before getting behind the wheel.

Our officers will be conducting proactive enforcement efforts focused on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road. Whether impairment is caused by alcohol, cannabis, prescription medication, or other drugs, impaired driving puts everyone at risk.

If you plan on celebrating this weekend:

✅ Designate a sober driver before heading out
✅ Use a rideshare service, taxi, or public transportation
✅ Stay the night if you have been drinking or consuming cannabis
✅ Look out for your friends and family—don't let them drive impaired
✅ Report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1

And of course, if you are under the age of 21, do not consume alcohol. Not only is it against the law, but it places you, your passengers, and others on the road at serious risk.

Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of preventable traffic collisions. Our message is simple: If you feel different, you drive different.

Help us keep San Bruno's roads safe and ensure graduation celebrations are remembered for the right reasons.

🐾 Happy Retirement, K9 Greg! 🐾

Today, we would like to recognize the retirement of K9 Greg after years of dedicated service to the San Bruno community.

Alongside his handler, K9 Officer Calderon, K9 Greg faithfully served as a dual-purpose explosive detection and protection K9. Throughout his career, K9 Greg played a vital role in numerous arrests and helped keep our community safe by conducting explosive sweeps at local and regional events, community gatherings, and critical public safety operations.

K9 Greg’s work often took place behind the scenes, but his contributions had a lasting impact on the safety and security of our residents, visitors, and fellow first responders. His loyalty, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty exemplify the very best of our K9 Program.

As he hangs up his badge and leash, K9 Greg will now enjoy a well-earned retirement with Officer Calderon and his family—trading deployments and training days for plenty of naps, treats, and quality time at home.

Please join us in thanking K9 Greg for his years of service, dedication, and partnership with the San Bruno Police Department. We wish him a happy, healthy, and relaxing retirement.

Please take a moment to listen to K9 Greg’s final radio call.

Thank you for your service, K9 Greg. You have earned it. 🐾💙

Last night, Officer Daimhin Kirwan (pronounced Davin) was presented with the San Bruno Police Department’s Distinguished Service Medal during the San Bruno City Council Meeting for his heroic actions that saved a life on April 27, 2026.

While responding to a report of a distraught individual on the Sneath Lane overpass above Interstate 280, Officer Kirwan observed a woman climb over the railing and position herself approximately 30 to 40 feet above the freeway below. Despite the danger and without hesitation, Officer Kirwan immediately engaged the woman in conversation in an effort to calm her and convince her to return to safety.

At a critical moment during the encounter, the woman released her grip from the railing and leaned toward the freeway below. Recognizing the imminent danger, Officer Kirwan acted instantly — grabbing the woman and pulling her back over the railing to safety.

Officer Kirwan’s swift, courageous, and selfless actions likely saved the woman’s life and prevented a tragedy for countless motorists traveling below. His professionalism, compassion, and unwavering commitment to protecting human life exemplify the highest standards of the San Bruno Police Department.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Kirwan on this well-deserved recognition. 👏

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the men and women of our armed forces who gave their lives serving our country. Because of their sacrifice, we are able to enjoy the freedoms and opportunities that make this nation so special, and we are deeply grateful for all who have served and continue to serve.

Today, our Honor Guard was proud to participate in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Golden Gate National Cemetery with the presentation of the colors. It was incredible to see so many active-duty and veterans of our armed forces, community groups, families, and so many community members come together to honor those we have lost and reflect on what this day truly means. A special thank you to the Avenue of the Flags Committee for their work to make this important event happen.

From all of us at the San Bruno Police Department, we wish everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day. We hope you take a moment today to remember the sacrifices that made our freedoms possible, while also enjoying time with family, friends, and community.

Today, we want to congratulate Corporal Anthony McKenna on graduating from the Inner Perspectives Leadership Development Program.

Over the past six months, Corporal McKenna completed an intensive leadership program focused on developing communication, decision-making, self-awareness, and leadership skills for line-level law enforcement officers. Programs like these help prepare officers to take on greater responsibilities while continuing to positively impact both the department and the community they serve.

We look forward to watching Corporal McKenna continue to grow, lead, and excel throughout his career with the San Bruno Police Department. Congratulations, Corporal McKenna!

If you’ve seen runners and a whole lot of police lights making their way down El Camino Real today throughout San Mateo County… don’t worry, nobody was being chased. 🏃‍♂️🚓🔥

Today was the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, where law enforcement agencies across the county came together to carry the Flame of Hope in support of Special Olympics Northern California.

Members of the San Bruno Police Department proudly participated alongside our allied agencies as the torch made its way through the city. Officers received the torch from South San Francisco Police Department before handing it off to Millbrae Police Department to continue its journey down the Peninsula.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run represents more than just a run — it symbolizes inclusion, perseverance, and the strong partnership between law enforcement and the athletes of Special Olympics.

We are honored to be a part of this tradition and proud to support these incredible athletes every step of the way. 💙
