Thank you to everyone who participated in the County’s efforts to study the impacts of Short-Term Rentals (STRs) to the housing stock. After many months of research, analysis, and community outreach, the County has completed its STR Study.
We will be holding a virtual meeting on November 16, 2023 at 5:30 PM to present the study’s findings and hear your thoughts in advance of County staff’s planned December presentation to the Board of Supervisors. Meeting link and details will be provided in the next week. The research, data, and analysis prepared by the County’s consultants (Granicus and PlaceWorks), as well as past presentations, will be published on November 9th and available for download at the County’s STR website:

In response to community concerns and as directed by San Bernardino County’s Housing Element, the County is preparing a study to evaluate the impacts of short-term rental activity on renter households and the availability of long-term rental housing in Mountain and Desert unincorporated communities. The County will share the study background, data sources and methodologies, market trends for short-term rentals, preliminary findings, requests for community input and next steps at community meetings in both the Desert and Mountain Regions. The revised draft Housing Element based on the HCD Comments from August is now available for public review and comment!

The draft Housing Element will be heard before the Board of Supervisors on September 27, 2022.

The draft Housing Element will be submitted to the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) after the 14-day review period closes. The Draft Housing Element and technical report can be found on our website below. Please submit your comments for consideration by Monday, June 6, 2022 . You may submit your comments via e-mail at [email protected] or via mail to Land Use Services 385 N. Arrowhead Avenue, 1st floor, San Bernardino CA, 92415.
While state law requires the draft Housing Element to be made available for public review for 7 days, the County is extending the public review time to 14 days to give interested residents and stakeholders additional time to review and submit comments and questions. This May 2022 version of the draft Housing Element replaces the previous December 2021 version. To facilitate public review, changes from the December 2021 version are tracked, with new content marked with underlines and deleted content shown as .
