Catholic Charities San Bernardino & Riverside Counties

Catholic Charities San Bernardino & Riverside Counties Catholic Charities provides compassionate social services that respond to the suffering of the vulnerable and those in crisis in our local communities.

Catholic Charities is a community-based organization AND a faith-based organization. Catholic Charities is a community based organization incorporated in the State of California in 1980 as a 501(c)3 public benefit corporation. The Articles of Incorporation state the purpose of the corporation is to engage in social welfare activities in the counties of San Bernardino and Riverside. Catholic Charit

ies provides vitally necessary social services to the public – regardless of religious affiliation and without discrimination. Catholic Charities has a Board of Directors representing the community with specific duties and responsibilities as outlined in the organization’s by-laws. The CEO of Catholic Charities serves as the Executive Vice-President of the corporation of Catholic Charities San Bernardino & Riverside Counties. Catholic Charities is also a Catholic organization that is the official social outreach ministry of the Diocese of San Bernardino in carrying out the work of the Social Gospel. Deep religious and historic traditions of service to the larger community provide the foundation for the work of Catholic Charities. Religious affiliation is not a requirement of employment, however, it is in their acts of service to others that staff witness the love of God through compassionate care of all God’s children and work prophetically, as Jesus did in his time, to build a more just and equitable society. By virtue of our name and values, Catholic Charities is a visible and active Catholic presence in the community acting on behalf of the Bishop and the people of the Diocese of San Bernardino. Catholic Charities is guided by the core values of Catholic Social Teaching. These values are rooted in the belief of the dignity and worth of all people and the understanding that all people have the right to access all that they need in order to achieve fulfillment. While society may disregard some people because they are poor or in crisis or considered unworthy, Catholic Charities reaches out to those who are most often ignored and unfairly judged with respect for their human dignity. Catholic Charities is a separate corporation from the Diocese of San Bernardino yet is in relationship with the diocese. The Bishop of the Diocese of San Bernardino is the President of the corporation of Catholic Charities.
