The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Rodeo returns this September with four days of live entertainment, professional rodeo competition and family activities. 🤠

Festivities begin Thursday, Sept. 24, with a concert featuring Niko Moon and Ashley Felton. The PRCA rodeo follows Sept. 25-27 with bull riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding and more. Families can also enjoy a mechanical bull, rock climbing, pony rides and a petting zoo.

The nonprofit event supports charitable causes benefiting local youth and organizations that assist families affected by cancer.

Purchase tickets and prepaid parking at SheriffsRodeo.com.

Tickets purchased through unauthorized third-party sites, including Marketplace, SeatGeek, StubHub and TickPick, will not be accepted for admission.

Have you been waiting for new and requested titles to arrive at your local library? 📚

San Bernardino County Library has added Brodart and Libraria as new book vendors following an industry-wide change that caused delays in the arrival of some new materials.

The new vendors will give the County Library more flexibility when purchasing books and will expand access to available inventory. As the transition moves forward, customers should begin to see a more consistent flow of new materials arriving at the County Library’s 32 branches.

Sometimes change doesn’t happen after the first contact. Sometimes it takes someone continuing to show up. 💖

After eight years of homelessness and addiction, Paul met Deputy Derek Emery with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Community Services and Reentry Division. Emery continued reaching out and encouraging Paul to accept help until he was ready to take the first step.

Did you know that one of the world's rarest apple varieties is grown exclusively in Oak Glen? 🍎

The first apple orchard in Oak Glen was established by Enoch Parrish in 1876. The Wilshire family soon followed after recognizing that Oak Glen’s elevation and cool climate were ideal for growing apples.

Today, Oak Glen produces the Vasquez apple, which is grown exclusively in the area. Some heirloom varieties, including the King David apple, Arkansas Black and Glen Seedling are also found in Oak Glen, which are hard to find in regular stores.

Apples became an important part of Oak Glen’s agricultural history, but they were not the only crops grown there. Potatoes and other crops were being grown in the area as early as the 1890s.

In 1906, the Rivers brothers established Los Rios Rancho, which remains in operation today and is Southern California’s largest historical ranch.

Oak Glen’s apple industry changed dramatically in the 1940s when several farms began selling apples, apple pies, apple butter and fresh pressed apple cider. The area quickly became a destination for visitors.

Today, more than 300,000 people visit Oak Glen each year to pick apples and enjoy homemade pies, fresh pressed cider and more.

We would like to thank Harper Maverick-Gamboa of Twentynine Palms for sharing an incredible photo of a unique site in Joshua Tree. ✨

Transmission is an art installation made from steel, reinforced concrete, and mosaiced with a dichroic glass mirror that changes color depending on where you stand. The art installation, which stands approximately 28 feet tall, represents the hands and head of a goddess who is transmitting energy and light to those who pass through. The sculpture features a suspended stainless steel crescent moon in each hand along with a crescent moon shaped opening in her forehead.

Transmission was created by artist Daniel Popper and commissioned by Los Angeles-based developer and interior designer Morgan Brown. Brown and Popper collaborated on the concept. The artwork reminds the viewer to always strive to promote peace, love and unity. Transmission is located at 2015 Sunfair Road in Joshua Tree.

As the largest county in the country, San Bernardino County spans a diverse landscape of mountains, deserts and valleys, each with its own unique risks and hazards. Mountain communities may face wildfires, winter storms and road closures, while desert communities can experience extreme heat, high winds and flash flooding. In the valleys, earthquakes, extreme heat and wildfire smoke can impact homes and daily routines. 🌧️ ☀️

September is National Preparedness Month, a nationwide observance that encourages individuals, families and communities to prepare for emergencies and disasters. In San Bernardino County, preparedness can look different depending on where you call home.

This September, the San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services is launching “Ready Together: Prepare Where You Live,” a campaign focused on helping residents understand the risks in their communities and take practical steps to prepare.
