Today, we proudly recognize Juneteenth National Independence Day, a historic celebration of freedom and resilience.

The Board of Education of the San Bernardino City Unified School District recognizes June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day and joins communities across California and the nation in honoring this important day.

As we celebrate, we reflect on the significant contributions African Americans have made throughout our nation’s history and their enduring commitment to advancing freedom, unity, equality, and opportunity for all.

In observance of Juneteenth, all SBCUSD school sites and district offices will be closed today.

Today, SBCUSD celebrated the groundbreaking of Fire Station 227, a new San Bernardino County Fire station built adjacent to Arrowhead Elementary School through a unique partnership. While the fire station and the school operate independently, they now share a campus in a way that strengthens both public safety and the educational community.

Thanks to the leadership and vision of Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., this collaboration also made possible a brand-new playground for Arrowhead Elementary students. Even more meaningful, from the start of this partnership, students and families helped shape the vision by sharing what they wanted to see in the space.

When schools and local government work together, everyone benefits. This partnership demonstrates what’s possible when we invest in both the safety of our neighborhoods and the success of our students.
