CAL FIRE San Bernardino Unit firefighters, in partnership with the San Manuel Fire Department of the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, recently completed fuels reduction work in the Hubert Eaton area of the San Bernardino Mountains.

Crews safely burned and removed 103 piles of dead and downed vegetation that had been previously collected and staged by firefighters during periods when they were not assigned to emergency incidents. These piles consisted of hazardous fuels that can accumulate over time and contribute to increased wildfire intensity if left untreated.

Projects like this play an important role in reducing wildfire risk in mountain communities. By removing excess vegetation and combustible material from the landscape, firefighters help decrease the likelihood of rapid fire spread while improving defensible conditions around critical infrastructure and surrounding forested areas.

This work reflects the continued partnership between CAL FIRE and the San Manuel Fire Department, demonstrating a shared commitment to proactive wildfire prevention and stewardship of the San Bernardino Mountains.

CAL FIRE remains committed to transparency with the public regarding vegetation management and fuels reduction efforts across California. To view projects and track fuels reduction work in your area, visit the CAL FIRE Fuels Reduction Tracker:

Through ongoing fuels reduction work and strong partnerships, we continue working toward a safer San Bernardino County and a safer California by reducing wildfire hazards and mitigating risk before the next fire season.
