San Bernardino Expanding Its Pet Rescue Network

The City of San Bernardino Animal Services Department recently completed its first Wings of Rescue transport, safely flying seven shelter dogs to receiving rescue partners for placement opportunities in Delaware.

This innovative partnership marks an exciting new chapter in expanding access to additional rescues across the country and creating positive outcomes for animals in the shelter's care.

This is also a great time to for you to adopt a new pet into your family!

Throughout the month of June, anyone who adopts a large breed dog or puppy from the City of San Bernardino Animal Shelter at 333 Chandler Place will receive a FREE dog training course thanks to the Lange Foundation!

New San Bernardino Fire Station on Its Way!

Earlier today, the County Fire Protection District broke ground on the construction of its new Station 227 within the Arrowhead Elementary School property at the corner of Mountain View and 38th Street.

The new facility will improve emergency response and service for area residents and businesses and will replace the current station at 40th Street and Electric Avenue, which was built in 1953 – 73 years ago.

Project partners for the 10,764-square-foot facility include the San Bernardino County Fire, the County of San Bernardino, and the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, along with the San Bernardino Unified School District.

The station is expected to open in late 2027.

Building Hope, Housing, and Healing for Homeless in San Bernardino

In its ongoing effort to address homelessness, the City of San Bernardino is pleased to announce the opening of Lutheran Social Services of Southern California’s new Community Wellness Campus on G Street in San Bernardino.

The campus will provide 140 new interim housing units for individuals experiencing homelessness, low-income populations, and those with complex health and social service needs, adding to the 70-bed emergency shelter operated by the LSSSC since 2016.

The facility features a large industrial kitchen addressing both food inequity and providing hands-on workforce development, a computer lab, intake center, case management, mental health/psychiatric services, and trauma-informed services to help clients reach self-sufficiency.

The project is a partnership between the City of San Bernardino and LSSSC and was largely funded through a Project Homekey grant from the State.

Additional partners include: the County of San Bernardino, Dignity Moves, Tovey Schultz, and TR Designs’ architects, the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health, and the U.S. Departments of Education; Housing and Urban Development; and Health and Human Services.

A grand opening ceremony is being planned for the campus in mid-July.

Have You Seen This Dog? If So, Where?

Fortunately, this puppy is not missing. It can be found at the corner of E Street and Chandler Place, not too far from the City of San Bernardino Animal Shelter.

It is the work of local artist Christian Mariscal, whose work can be found on utility boxes all over San Bernardino.

Next time you're near E Street and Chandler Place, check out Christian's work and consider adopting a dog or cat from the shelter!
