Happy Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa is a seven-day non-religious holiday observed in the US, meant to honor African Americans culture. The celebration lasts until January 1. The name comes from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza,” which means “first fruits.”

The holiday is defined by Nguzo Saba, or the seven principles. Each day of the festival is dedicated to a specific principle, marked by lighting a new candle on the kinara, a seven-branched candelabra for "Umoja" (unity), "Kujichagulia" (self-determination), "Ujima" (uplifting your community), "Ujamaa" (uplifting your community economically), "Nia" (purpose), "Kuumba" (creativity), and "Imani" (faith).

The SBSPOA along with all of our law enforcement partners commit ourselves to working hard and keeping our students safe, to ensure this never happens again.
