Communities In Schools of Cameron County

Communities In Schools of Cameron County Communities In Schools (CIS) believes that caring, one-on-one relationships between adults and young people make the crucial difference.

CIS is a nonprofit organization made up of 27 local Texas affiliates that support students at-risk of dropping out by surrounding them with a community of support to ensure they stay in school and achieve in life. Programs don't change kids - relationships do. CIS creates comprehensive, locally controlled and owned support systems around schools. CIS locates and coordinates community resources, de

dicated volunteers, and agencies to serve in partnership with the public schools, both during the day and after school, thereby making the work of our educators much more effective. Coordination of effort and accountability for results are essential aspects of the service CIS provides - because, too often, well-meaning programs are not focused on overall school objectives. CIS ensures that the work of these outside agencies and volunteers is interconnected and integrated to provide the support schools need the most.

Presence is more than being there. It’s being available, intentional, and willing to connect. As a CIS Site Coordinator, I’m grateful for every opportunity to remind our students at Stillman MS that they are seen, heard, and supported. 💙

🥕🍎 WHY WE ARE PRESENT! 🍎🥕

Today at Nelda Gonzalez Elementary at Berta Cabaza, CIS is proud to support Kids Cuisine, a nutrition education program designed to help students build healthy habits for life! 💚

Through our partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife, students participate in fun, hands-on nutrition lessons during PE, learning about healthy eating, balanced choices, and the importance of an active lifestyle. 🥦🏃‍♀️

We believe that educating students about their health today helps them make healthier choices for a brighter tomorrow! 🌟

🎉Every smile conversation, check-in and moment we share with our students, parents, and staff reminds them that they are seen, supported, and cared for. At Fred Booth Elementary School, our Site Coordinator Ms. Torres shows up to make that big difference for these students. In Schools
