On May 17, 2026, during the early afternoon hours, officers with the San Augustine Police Department were dispatched to the Texaco convenience store located near MLK Drive in reference to reports of two individuals shooting at each other.

According to witness statements gathered at the scene, two individuals reportedly pulled up near one another and began exchanging gunfire. Officers immediately secured the area and began an investigation into the incident.

Through witness accounts and information obtained during the preliminary investigation, officers were able to identify the two individuals believed to be involved. One of the subjects, a juvenile, was later located and arrested on an unrelated warrant.

At this time, investigators do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the public. The San Augustine Police Department continues to gather witness statements and physical evidence in an effort to determine exactly what occurred and the events leading up to the shooting.

This investigation remains active, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.

UPDATE*****

The driver of the suspect vehicle involved in the pursuit has been identified as Marquise Damon Regan and the passenger has been identified as Javis Thompson. Both had outstanding Felony warrants through other agencies. Regan has been charged with Evading Arrest With Motorvehicle a State Jail Felony.

Vehicle Pursuit Leads to Arrests in San Augustine

On May 11, 2026, the San Augustine Police Department was notified by the Center Police Department about a vehicle pursuit that was headed toward the City of San Augustine.

The San Augustine Police Department joined the pursuit at the northern city limits of San Augustine. The San Augustine Police Department coordinated with the San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office and secured the intersections of US Highway 96 and State Highway 21.

During the incident, a tactical vehicle intervention was attempted. During the attempt, the passenger exited the vehicle and surrendered without further incident. The driver then fled northbound on US Highway 96 before proceeding east on Martin Luther King Drive with officers continuing the pursuit.

The driver continued South on Martin Luther King Drive and then west on Barrett Street. At the intersection of US Highway 96 and Barrett Street, officers conducted a second tactical vehicle intervention, which was successful. The driver then fled on foot east on Barrett Street. Officers were able to apprehend and arrest the driver without further incident. There were no other suspects.

There were no injuries reported to the suspects or officers involved.

Both the driver and passenger were found to have active warrants for their arrest. This release will be updated tomorrow with the suspects’ names and charges.

***********MISSING PERSON**********.

We are requesting assistance in locating Dustin Whiddon. He is approximately 5’10”, 230lbs, brown hair, brown eyes. He abandoned his vehicle near Bounds Hill, on US-96S, and was last seen in the vicinity of Ace Hardware at US-96/Loop 500 at at around 1:43pm this afternoon.

He has been reported missing from Beauregard Parish, La. When he was last seen there, he was believed to have been experiencing a mental crisis and exhibited suicidal tendencies.

Good Morning, We hope everyone had an incredible Easter weekend. We have received several calls in reference to giving an officer compliments and also filing a complaint. People have sent private messages using the Facebook platform to do both. We will accept compliments via Facebook but Complaints need to be done in a different manor. I have attached the link to our City Website where you can find the forms for filing a complaint. We take all complaints seriously and they will be thoroughly investigated. If you can not use the internet to utilize the form, you may pick one up at the San Augustine Police Department.

Thank you for the invite to be a judge at the 2026 4-H/FFA Archery Competition. Great group of kids. They displayed great sportsmanship and most of all had fun. Parents if you want a positive organization for your kids to participate in, these are definitely two options.
