After much deliberation and review, the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas, determined to identify the best candidate for an office that carries much weight in the legal defense of Texans life, liberty, and property have come to a strong consensus that Chip Roy is the candidate most qualified to be our next Texas Attorney General.
According to Chip Roy, "The AGâs foremost obligation is to defend liberty and the Constitution, not expand and manage bureaucracy. Constitutions exist to restrain government, not justify growth. My office would ensure every action or opinion is rooted in enumerated powers and strict adherence to due process. Liberty must win." We could agree more.
Chip Royâs responses to the RLCTX Attorney General candidate survey and subsequent interviews confirm his firm commitment to constitutional governance. On core principles including congressional war powers, the overuse of outdated Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs), and the proper balance between state and federal authority, Roy articulated a clear determination to restore federalism. He acknowledged Defend the Guard legislation as a meaningful structural mechanism to realign war authority with its intended constitutional limits and to reassert the role of the states in checking federal excess.
During his tenure in Congress, Chip Roy has consistently spoken and voted in favor of restoring institutional accountability and limiting federal overreach. His record reflects sustained support for fiscal restraint, regulatory limitation, medical freedom, national sovereignty, and the restoration of Congressâs exclusive authority to declare war.
When asked directly whether he would defend Texas against unconstitutional federal action as Attorney General, Mr. Roy responded without hesitation that he would use the full constitutional authority of the office to defend Texas law and its citizens. He affirmed that the Texas Attorney General has both the authority and the duty to resist federal actions that exceed enumerated constitutional powers.
Our discussions further revealed a candidate who understands both the legal mechanics and the broader liberty implications of issues including due process, over-criminalization, immigration enforcement impacts, and public safety failures. He framed these matters not as isolated policy disputes but as part of a broader constitutional imperative: that Texans have a right to hold our Office of the Attorney General and Texas Law Enforcement to a high standard.
Chip Royâs philosophical and legal commitments demonstrate clear alignment with the principles of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas. His reliance on constitutional guardrails for all branches and levels of government provides strong assurance that he would faithfully execute the duties of the Attorney Generalâs office and serve well the people of Texas.
