Army Reserve nutrition care specialists put their skills to the test at the Philip A. Connelly competition at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
The 311th Field Hospital team, 807th Theater Medical Command, was made up of 68M nutrition care specialists from the 256th, 311th, 325th and 921st field hospitals. These Soldiers attend the same training as 92G culinary specialists, then complete more training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, focused on nutrition. In a field hospital, they prepare patient meals, including specialized diets, while also supporting Soldiers' nutritional needs.
"A lot of people have misunderstandings of what our role is," said Sgt. Deltann Pape, a 68M assigned to the 256th Field Hospital.
Over two days, the team conducted briefings, convoy operations and equipment inspections, set up a containerized kitchen and food sanitation center, and executed the feeding mission. Pfc. Samantha Gray of the 421st Medical Detachment, the team's most junior Soldier, served as the person in charge of the kitchen.
Established in 1968, the Connelly Award is the Army's oldest logistics readiness award. Results will be announced after the competition cycle is complete.
