Our OEM team is out in the field with SBA, visiting areas of unincorporated Bexar County to continue assessing storm damage. These damage assessments are an important step in determining whether damage thresholds are met for potential federal disaster assistance.

Our teams and partners remain actively in the field, assessing impacts and gathering information to support residents and help our communities move forward.

Bexar County Office of Emergency Management is proud to join the Texas Dept of Emergency Management (TDEM) and officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as they conduct preliminary damage assessments. The assessments will help determine if the thresholds are met for federal disaster aid.

September is National Preparedness Month and we're all hands on deck! Our website has plenty of resources in how families can prepare before an emergency happens. Please be aware that there's a Heat Advisory that will be in effect the next few days. Be aware of heat related illnesses, like heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Check on your neighbors and don't ever leave any children or pets in hot vehicles.
If you're working outside, hydrate often and take breaks in shade or air conditioning, if possible.

Bexar County is under a Heat Advisory now through Thursday.
Please make sure you are hydrated, limit strenuous activity, don't leave children or pets in a turned off vehicle and check on your neighbors! The heat and humidity will make a dangerous combination. Heat indices will climb as high as 112 degrees.

10 AM Update: Tropical Storm Bertha is forecast to approach the Texas coast as a tropical depression by early Friday. Wind shear, dry air and land interaction could limit the storms organization as it approaches Texas late week. No impacts are expected for South Central Texas through Thursday night. Friday into the weekend, moisture from Bertha or its remnants could bring a low chance (20-30%) of showers, favoring the Coastal Plains. Please follow us and other trusted sources including hurricanes.gov through the week.
