Good to join the San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF) for their 40th anniversary Brunch. Founded in 1986, SAAF served 1,811 people living with HIV and performed more than 3,200 HIV tests while connecting San Antonians with medical care, PrEP, mental health services, transportation, housing assistance, and other critical resources in 2025 alone.

Congratulations on four decades of caring for San Antonio and continuing to ensure every person who walks through your doors is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Happy Labor Day, San Antonio!

Great to celebrate Labor Day early with San Antonio AFL-CIO at their Labor Leads Dinner & Dance event in celebration of their work year-round to support fair wages and workplace protections in our community — efforts that strengthen our entire city.

To honor the hard-fought labor wins that led to a 40-hour work week, having a weekend, child labor laws and so much more that we take for granted, TODAY would be a good day to make sure you’re voter registration is active. Go to Texas.gov to check. If it’s listed as “suspended,” call Bexar County Elections TOMORROW to have your address corrected/confirmed, 210-335-VOTE (8683).

Congratulations to the Center for Health Empowerment in South Texas (CHEST) for opening its first physical location.

Someone living south of Highway 90 has a life expectancy 20 years shorter than folks living north of it. We have to do better, and CHEST is helping address those disparities by bringing health resources, food access, mental health services, educational opportunities, and benefits navigation to our most vulnerable.

Thanks to CHEST President/CEO Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia, CHEST Board President Dr. Lyssa Ochoa, and the CHEST staff for their efforts to strengthen our City.

Great meeting with Consul General of Canada Susan Harper to discuss the state of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) Trade Agreement and wish her well on her well-earned retirement.

I’m thankful for her partnership in strengthening the relationship between Texas and Canada, our state’s second-largest foreign export market. During her tenure, Consul General Harper helped advance conversations around trade, investment, energy, and economic cooperation across our state. San Antonio’s economy is only strengthened by strong trade ties with Canada, and I look forward to advancing this important partnership.

I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Acting Police Chief Jesse Salame, who was recently appointed as the next Police Chief by the City Manager, to hear his vision for the department and how he sees its opportunities and challenges. Under the City Charter, the Mayor & Council will vote whether to confirm the appointment, and that vote will take place next Thursday.

You may be one of the 1.2 million Texas voters listed in “suspense” status, because your address is unconfirmed.

Good news is there is time to fix this. Go to Texas.gov to check your status. If your voter registration is suspended, call the Bexar County Elections Office (210-335-VOTE or 210-335-8683) to have this corrected before the October 5th deadline.

Election Day is November 3rd. Every vote counts.

Thank you to the World Affairs Council of San Antonio, Armen Babajanian, Cassandra Parker-Nowicki, and the Carver Community Cultural Center for having me at the Standing in Our Truth event.

For more than four decades, the World Affairs Council has challenged San Antonians to look beyond our own experiences and better understand the people, events, and ideas shaping the world around us.

In her novel "Standing in My Truth: A Woman's Plea to Stop Racism & Hate," Julie Beth writes about how racism has affected the people she loves in ways she couldn't ignore, reminding us that recognizing injustice also requires us to consider how we respond when we see it.

San Antonio is shaped by different cultures, histories, and lived experiences, and together they are part of the story of who we are as a city. By listening to one another and making space for every voice, we strengthen the sense of community, connection, and belonging that defines San Antonio.
