Anytime the U.S. military goes into battle, the actions of U.S. Space Force Guardians have an immediate and critical impact.

For example: Last year’s Operation Midnight Hammer, a significant U.S. military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear sites was dependent on a variety of Space Force mission areas. These include:

Position, Navigation and Timing – In the face of adversary GPS jamming, the Space Force maintained GPS availability to determine an optimal release window for the precision guided GBU-57 “Bunker Buster” Bombs. The destruction of Iranian nuclear facilities depended on these calculations.

Electromagnetic Warfare – Space Force Guardians utilized electromagnetic warfare capabilities to monitor the electromagnetic spectrum and effectively take control. This limits an adversary’s capability to detect U.S. aircraft, allowing American pilots to ingress and egress safely while performing their mission.

Intelligence – The Space Force leveraged space-based intelligence functions to inform planning preceding the operation.

Satellite Communication – As they do with all U.S. military operations, Space Force Guardians enabled satellite communications that are vital to modern warfare.

Simply put, the U.S. Space Force enables the U.S. military to be the only military in the world capable of an operation like Midnight Hammer.

This is a view from space of all the different satellite orbits around Earth. That small cluster in the middle is the Low Earth Orbit (LEO), which ranges from 100 to 1,200 miles above Earth!

The United States Space Force is responsible for tracking every object around Earth. That's over 15,000 active satellites!
