Celebrating the Day of the Girl with the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas was an incredible experience.

Angie Salinas, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, introduced us to Kiana, a remarkable leader on their Girl Board. Kiana spent the day sharing her insights and experiences with every young girl who visited our table.

Our 2025 theme, “Her Story, Su Poder,” resonates deeply with Kiana. The Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women provided girls with journals, and Kiana emphasized the importance of their stories. D7 Commissioner Christine Chesnut provided yoga sessions for the girls as well.

The Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women takes pride in supporting our young women and looks forward to how we will contribute to our community in 2026.

Meeting Kiana was a highlight, and we are excited to see her growth in the coming years.

Support the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. Under Angie’s leadership, our girls are the only girls in Texas who learn the importance of strategic planning on a true leadership board. We are impressed with how we are building the future of Texas women.

It’s a beautiful day to celebrate Day of the Girl with Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas! We’ve got capes, paletas, and more at our table, along with multiple stations in the park provided by groups aimed at empowering girls and women.

It’s been a great day, celebrating San Antonio’s women.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is “Break the Bias”. The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women aims to work on breaking biases all year long, as we promised during our proclamation by the Mayor last Thursday.

We hope you all join us in breaking biases throughout 2022.

Black History Month is upon us, and it's a great time to honor Black Women that have helped shape our beautiful city.

Ella Austin (1856-1902) was originally from Ohio, but moved to San Antonio's West Side after marriage. She and her husband opened their home to orphaned children, but soon after they realized they would need more space, and moved their children's home to the East Side of San Antonio.

A founder of the Progressive Women's Club, a leading Black philanthropic organization in San Antonio, Ella Austin and members of the Progressive Women's Club became caretakers and fundraisers for the home.

Despite an early death, Ella Austin's efforts still remain a part of community assistance for all East Side residents today, and have grown from a children's home to the Ella Austin Community Center.

Congratulations to Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia on being inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame!

Councilwoman Rocha was recognized earlier this month as a 2022 San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame Inductee for Public Service.
