Many observers have noticed a significant decline in alcohol consumption in recent years, particularly among younger generations like Gen Z, who drink less than older cohorts and show lower prevalence of regular drinking than past generations. Alcohol sales and consumption trends in the U.S. are near decades long lows, reflecting broader shifts in habits and preferences.

At the same time, Bible engagement in the United States has seen a notable rebound in 2025, with weekly Scripture reading rising to levels not seen in over a decade. Young adults, including Gen Z and millennials, are driving much of this rise, and roughly half of self identified Christians now report reading the Bible weekly.

As cultural habits change, this moment invites us to reflect on deeper needs of the heart. While trends in drinking remind us of shifting lifestyles, the increasing engagement with God’s Word points us toward something far more enduring: a search for meaning, hope, and connection that goes beyond temporary pleasures. In seasons of change, may we always turn our eyes to Christ, the source of true thirst quenching life.
