Herff Elementary, SAISD

Herff Elementary, SAISD Herff Elementary is a dual language campus where we believe every child will be successful.

Herff Elementary was named after Ferdinand Ludwig von Herff whom was born November 29, 1820. Herff attended the University of Berlin and the University of Bonn, where his uncle Doctor von Rehfuss was the president of the university. In 1853, he became a charter member of the Texas Medical Association. Herff strived to elevate the standards of medical practice, and was San Antonio health officer in

1860. Like many Germans, Herff was a supporter of the Union in the Civil War; however, he served as Confederate States Army surgeon, treating the patient not the uniform. He helped the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word establish Santa Rosa Infirmary, San Antonio's first hospital. He became the treasurer of the San Antonio Independent School District Board from May 1899 to May 1906.

Dear Herff Elementary Families,
Thank you so much for your incredible generosity during our National Teddy Bear Drive! Thanks to your support, our school community collected and donated 125 stuffed animals to the SAISD Police Department.
These cuddly companions will be used by our officers to offer comfort, security, and reassurance to district students during difficult times and challenging situations. Seeing our Herff family step up to care for our broader SAISD community is truly inspiring. Thank you for coming together to make a real difference for children when they need it most!

Dear Herff Elementary Families,

In honor of National Teddy Bear Day September 9th, Herff Elementary is collecting new or gently used stuffed animals to support the SAISD Police Department. These donated toys will be given to officers to help comfort children during difficult and challenging situations in our community.

How You Can Help:

What: Donate a new or gently used stuffed animal/toy.

Where: Drop off box located at Herff Elementary.

Why: To support SAISD PD in bringing comfort and smiles to local students in times of need.

En honor al Día Nacional del Oso de Peluche, Herff Elementary está recolectando animales de peluche nuevos o en buen estado para apoyar al Departamento de Policía de SAISD. Estos juguetes donados se entregarán a los oficiales para brindar consuelo a los niños durante momentos difíciles en nuestra comunidad.

SAISD schools will operate on a normal schedule Monday, Aug. 31. CPS Energy continues working to restore service, and district teams are actively inspecting campuses to ensure they are safe, operational, and ready to welcome students and staff.

We will provide another update at approximately 6 p.m.
