Appraisal Districts were established in each county in Texas in 1981 to appraise each property at fair market value as of January 1 of each year for ad valorem tax purposes. The Appraisal District is governed by a Board of Directors who appoints the Chief Appraiser to serve as the chief administrator of the appraisal office. Michael Amezquita has served as the Bexar Appraisal District Chief Appraiser since 2003 and invites you to contact or visit our office with any questions or concerns you may have. The Bexar Appraisal Review Board is seeking members for its 2027 term.

Appointed by the Board of Directors, the ARB is independent from the Bexar Central Appraisal District and made up of local citizens who hear property tax protests, exemption denials, and special-use appraisal cases to ensure fair and impartial property valuations.

Applications are open through Friday, October 2, 2026. Applicants must have lived in Bexar County for at least two years and be available for a possible 40-hour workweek from June through October. For more information or to apply, visit bcad.org/arb-members/ or call 210-242-2437.
